Today, the Louisiana House of Representatives voted 66-35 in favor of Senate Bill 51, the NRA-backed bill allowing employees and customers to keep firearms locked in their vehicles while parked on a publicly accessible parking lot controlled by a business.

SB51 would clarify that current state law allowing Louisianans the right to possess lawfully owned firearms in their private motor vehicles would supercede policies adopted by business owners or employers prohibiting the transportation or storage of guns in locked cars and trucks parked in unsecured, public-access parking lots.

SB51 now heads to the Senate for concurrence on either Sunday, June 22 or Monday, June 23. It is imperative that you contact your State Senator and urge him or her to support your right of self-defense by supporting SB51. We were able to gain support in the House due to the thousands of phone calls and emails that you made-now we need to do the same with the Senate! To find your State Senator please click here.

In a victory for Montesano’s law-abiding gun owners, Montesano, WA Mayor Ron Schillinger vetoed an ordinance banning the carrying of concealed firearms in the city’s parks, even by licensed Right-to-Carry permit holders.

Please contact Mayor Schillinger, TODAY and thank him for opposing this violation of state law and unjust and unwarranted attack on our right to self-defense and Second Amendment freedoms. Mayor Schillinger can be reached by phone at (360) 249-3021, ext. 102 or via email at mayor@montesano.us.

Crimson Trace has developed a revolutionary new set of Lasergrips for the Smith & Wesson M&P compact pistols. The LG-661 fits the compact M&P chambered in .40 S&W, 9mm and the.357 SIG caliber of pistols, and is now available.

Crimson Trace LG-661 Lasergrip laser for Smith and Wesson M&P compact pistolThe compact LG-661 is as unique in design as the full-size version it mirrors, the LG-660. It replaces the stock M&P back strap grip insert and slides into place in just a few seconds using existing factory parts. It is instinctively activated by a pressure switch built into the backstrap of the polymer Lasergrip. Simply grasping the firearm in a normal shooting grip activates the laser. All electrical components fit into the Lasergrip, which is the same size and shape of the original M&P medium sized back strap.

There are two #2032 batteries located in the palm swell on the sides of the Lasergrips, providing over 4 hours of a constant-on beam time. The master switch is also located on the backstrap and uses a new touch sensor switch versus a mechanical switch as found on other Lasergrips. This allows the user to turn the unit on or off even while using gloves. Users simply press and hold the recessed pressure switch to turn the power on or off.

The texture of the unit is almost identical to the stock S&W grip. Rubber overmolding on the backstrap covers the master on/off switch and the activation button, providing improved grip while shooting. This fully integrated laser sighting system is another Crimson Trace first in the marketplace.

Another feature of the LG-661 is that it uses a smaller 3.3mm diameter laser diode versus the standard 5.6mm diameter diode that is found in most all other brands of laser sighting devices. This results in a lower profile diode housing and a laser that emits the same brightness as one almost twice its size. As with all other Lasergrips, the LG-661 has both windage and elevation adjustments for shooters to make adjustments on their own. All Lasergrips come with an accessory pack that contains batteries, hex wrenches for laser adjustments, a cleaning cloth and several cleaning swabs. A three-year warranty is standard.

Lasergrips are made in the United States of America. Suggested retail price is $329.00, but Amazon has the LG-661 for $308.69 here.

Continuing concern about the treatment of firearm dealers by BATFE has caused members of the U.S. House of Representatives-with NRA-ILA’s full support-to push for new and improved reform legislation. That push has taken the form of H.R. 4900 — the “Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Reform and Firearms Modernization Act.”

H.R. 4900 represents NRA-ILA’s latest efforts to pass legislation that will make it easier for lawful gun owners and dealers to comply with federal law and regulations, while ensuring that those who break the law are punished accordingly. This bipartisan bill also serves as a vital step toward modernizing and improving BATFE’s overall operations. The bill would roll back unnecessary restrictions, correct errors, and codify longstanding congressional policies in the firearms arena, and is a vital step to modernize and improve BATFE operations.

NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. Cox has written a comprehensive article on this issue that appeared in the April issues of NRA’s magazines. In the article, Cox pledges his commitment to winning the reforms that H.R. 4900 proposes, but cautions that, “the key to our ultimate success will be the dedication and commitment of NRA members who call and write the Congress, and who turn out to campaign for candidates who support our Second Amendment rights.” (To read this article now, please click here.)

To that end, please be sure to contact your U.S. Representative at (202) 225-3121, and urge him or her to cosponsor and support H.R. 4900, the “Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Reform and Firearms Modernization Act.”

As of this writing, H.R. 4900 has 213 cosponsors. To see if your Representative is cosponsoring H.R. 4900, please click here.

One of my favorite pocket holster makers, RKBA Holsters, has introduced a new model holster made to fit the Ruger LCP pistol.

Ruger LCP Holster by RKBA HolstersThe Ruger LCP pistol has been a run-away success in the firearms industry this year. RKBA Holsters is now selling a pocket holster made just for the little .380 Ruger.

Enjoying many of the same design features of their other pocket holsters, the LCP holster retails for a mere $28…including shipping! Options include right or left handed and dyeing.

As I described in my earlier review, the quality is excellent and the service is very good.

More news from the NRA about anti-gun legislation from New York:

In the closing days of the legislative session, negotiations are taking place between Democratic Governor David Patterson’s Administration and legislative leaders on numerous proposals, including the Governor’s gun control package.

This package targets law-abiding gun owners and licensed gun dealers. The NRA strongly opposes this measure. Two areas that we specifically oppose are those that would implement more requirements for pistol license applicants without making licenses more accessible to those who qualify. The plan would also require licenses for employees of gun stores and grant the State Police broad authority to impose regulations on licensed dealers and gunsmiths.

To view a copy of the press release on Governor Paterson’s website, please click here.

It is imperative that NRA members contact their State Senators TODAY and respectfully urge them to oppose this measure! Please contact your State Senator today through the Senate switchboard at (518) 455-2800. To find your State Senator, please click here.

The Ranson City (WV) Council is considering an ordinance to ban the possession or carrying of concealed firearms on all “public property.”

The City Council tabled the ordinance earlier this month during first reading, but it may come up again at the council’s next meeting on July 1. This move is in blatant violation of West Virginia’s preemption statutes ยง8-12-5a.

The ordinance was originally tabled based on opposition voiced by Ranson Police Chief William Roper who felt that the language was too vague. Yet, he failed to mention that according to West Virginia law, “neither a municipality nor the governing body of any municipality may limit the right of any person to purchase, possess, transfer, own, carry, transport, sell or store any revolver, pistol, rifle or shotgun or any ammunition or ammunition components to be used therewith nor to so regulate the keeping of gunpowder so as to directly or indirectly prohibit the ownership of the ammunition.”

The next City Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 1 at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers located at 312 S. Mildred St. It is critical that the council members know that West Virginia’s law-abiding gun owners will not tolerate illegal and unjust attacks on our Second Amendment freedoms. Please make plans to attend this important meeting and make your voice heard during public comment time.

If you are unable to attend, please contact Mayor David Hamill TODAY and respectfully urge him to oppose this violation of state law and this unjust and unwarranted attack on our right to self-defense and Second Amendment freedoms. Mayor Hamill can be reached by phone at (304) 725-1010.

Please also contact the members of the City Council who originally voted for the ordinance and respectfully ask them to reconsider this illegal measure. The City Council members can be contacted by phone at (304) 725-1010.
