NY’s Gun Database Is a Failure: Seven Years and Millions of Dollars Wasted
ByIn yet another example of the wasteful spending of government, the state of New York has been building a huge database of all new firearms sold in the state. The database consists of a round being shot from the
firearm and the markings on the case being cataloged. New York passed the law requiring the database in 2001.
Fast-forward to 2008. No crimes have been solved with this data. No criminals have been brought to justice. No crimes have been prevented.
On the other hand, $1 million each year is spent keeping the program running.
Forget the arguments about the constitutionality of this database for a minute. Just the incredible waste of money for no return should be enough for lawmakers to shut this program down. Oh, but wait. That would actually require the use of good sense…
