Sigs Melt Too

By Richard on December 22, 2008 3 Comments

Thanks to The Firearm Blog for bringing this story from France. It seems to ‘dry his gun after cleaning,’ a French police officer put his Sig pistol in the oven for 20 minutes at 400ºF. The results were not pretty.  <Insert joke about guns and the French here.>

A few notes to all of you gun enthusiasts:

  1. Don’t do anything to your gun that would require baking it in the oven;
  2. See #1.

    I don’t know if it’s the French, or just dumb people. 400 degrees is even beyond MOST baking temps. Even if someone were not privy to the actual melting temp of polymer frames, a much more common sense temp would have been 150 degrees, and the Frenchman would no doubt still have his gun, and dry to boot. The death of Common Sense has been confirmed.

    I’d like to know if sticking a quality sidearm in an oven to dry it after cleaning is taught at French police academies or if this French five-o is watching waaayy too much of the “Food Channel”!
