Rev. Jesse Jackson Pushes for Even More Gun Laws In Chicago, IL

By Richard

Chicago, IL is known for its draconian gun laws, yet that’s not enough for the Rev. Jesse Jackson.  Citing more than 500 homicides in Chicago this year, Jackson makes the case that more, not less, gun control is needed.

Jackson and Jennifer Bishop, from the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence,  outlined a five part process to further restrict gun rights in Chicago.  Those steps are:

  1. Require universal background checks on every gun transfer,
  2. Regulate the trafficking of illegal guns,
  3. Restrict military-style assault weapons in civilian hands,
  4. Prohibit all violent criminals from possessing firearms, and
  5. Apply consumer product safety standards and childproof safety features to all firearms.

Sound familiar?  They should.  However, let me translate them for you:

  1. Eliminate private sales and transfers of firearms.  This would prevent me from giving my wife a gun for Christmas or inheriting a gun from my father.  It would also prevent me from selling a gun to my neighbor.
  2. Regulating the trafficking of illegal guns is a joke.  They might as well say “regulate the trafficking of illegal drugs.”  I’m sure you have seen how well that has worked.  You cannot “regulate” the illegal, as there is no way to track it, etc.  What they really want is to impose greater restrictions on the lawful sale of firearms by licensed gun dealers.  Greater restrictions create higher overhead costs for the dealer and introduce the greater possibility of clerical errors that the government could use to shut down a lawful business.
  3. Military-style assault weapons” are merely semi-automatic rifles that they think look mean.  They are not fully automatic guns, and they are not “high-powered.”  Most hunting rifles are higher powered than military caliber rifles such as the .223/5.56 (AR-15), and 7.62×39 (AK-47, SKS).
  4. Prohibit violent criminals from possessing firearms?  Who are they kidding?  By law, all felons are already prohibited from possessing firearms.  Also, people convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are prohibited from possessing a firearm.  What’s left?  A guy convicted of simple battery because he got into a bar fight 20 years ago?
  5. Consumer safety standards is merely a way for the anti-gunners to go after the manufacturers in court.  The goal is to show a firearm can injure someone, and therefore is not safe for consumers, and needs additional regulation by an additional federal agency PLUS consumer class action lawsuits.

If you live in the Chicago area, pay close attention to this and get involved! If you are not already a member, join the NRA!  Contact your representatives and let them know you are opposed to additional restrictions on your gun rights!

Jesse Jackson, why is it that the states where it’s citizens have the right to carry, the crime rate is lower. The states that have restricted their citizens to carry, have higher violent crime rates? Why did the violent crime rate in Austrilia go sky high, after that government took the citizen’s guns away? Why is it in England, a person does not have the right to resist a criminal in their own home.

As a retired peace officer, I support a person’s right to own a firearm. The founding fathers put the 2nd admendment in the Bill of Rights, to let the people have a way to protect themselves from their government. Hitler took the guns away from their people and 20 million died.

What would have happened if the Nazi’s would have been met at the door with a Jewish person holding a gun in their hand? Think about it.
