Sigs Melt Too

Posted by: Richard | Comments (3)

Thanks to The Firearm Blog for bringing this story from France. It seems to ‘dry his gun after cleaning,’ a French police officer put his Sig pistol in the oven for 20 minutes at 400ºF. The results were not pretty.  <Insert joke about guns and the French here.>

A few notes to all of you gun enthusiasts:

  1. Don’t do anything to your gun that would require baking it in the oven;
  2. See #1.

Anti-gun people always claim they want to “reduce crime” or “stop gun violence”, but they only seem to go after the lawful ownership of guns with more restrictions on the purchasing and ownership requirements on the law abiding citizens.

In Philadelphia, a group of religious leaders “…who’ve formed a collective effort to quell illegal gun purchases in the city,” are now pressuring gun dealers to make changes in how they conduct lawful sales of firearms. Huh?

The primary way to reduce crime involving firearms is to prosecute and incarcerate everyone involved in a crime involving a firearm.  Studies have shown that aggressive prosecution reduces crime.  The unfortunate state of this country is that in many jurisdictions, only a fraction of the people arrested for violent crimes are ever prosecuted and incarcerated.

The complete story from Philly.com.

The federal 11th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the $400 million libel suit filed against NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg will stay in Georgia. The Smyrna, GA gunshop Adventure Outdoors, filed a libel suit against Bloomberg after Bloomberg said Adventure Outdoors was a “rogue gun dealer” responsible for arming criminals in NYC.

Bloomberg wanted the lawsuit out of Georgia where his counsel believed they would have an easier time proving his immunity.  Bob Barr, representing Adventure Outdoors, was successful in convincing the 11th Circuit that the lawsuit should remain in Cobb County Superior Court, where it was originally filed.

Bloomberg used illegal methods to obtain dubious “proof” that Adventure Outdoors and other gun shops were regularly selling firearms in straw purchases.

As I stated in a previous article, I have purchased several firearms from Jay and his crew at Adventure Outdoors.  They are a class act with good prices and inventory.  I hope they get every penny from Bloomberg.

More information is at the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Kel Tec RFB Carbine Delayed

Posted by: Richard | Comments (0)

Kel Tec has announced a delay in shipping the RFB Carbine:

The release of the RFB Carbine is being delayed 30 to 60 days. Expect the first shipment by February of 2009.

The delay is due to a re-tooling effort aimed at adjusting production in order to precede any future negative legislative actions that are likely imminent due to the incoming administration.

I just got an e-mail from Centerfire Systems about a special they are offering this weekend.  Centerfire is offering the Rock Island Tactical 1911 for only $399 and are chipping in free shipping to the lower 48.

The Rock Island Tactial 1911 is an inexpensive clone manufactured by Armscorp in the Philippines.  I’ve never had the chance to shoot one, but I have been told they are good guns at the price point.  They feature:

  • Black Parkerized Finish
  • One 8rd Magazine Included
  • Padded Carry Case
  • 5″ Barrel
  • Extended Beaver Tail
  • Skeleton Hammer
  • Ambidextrous Safety
  • Checkered Slide Stop and Mag Release
  • Dove-tailed Target Sights with a Lightweight Hammer and Trigger
  • Wood Grips

If you are in the market for an inexpensive 1911, take a look at the Rock Island.

Posted by: Richard | Comments (1)

I have gotten a few e-mails inquiring if I will be at the SHOT Show this year, and yes, I will be.

This year’s show is in Orlando, FL and runs from January 15-18.  Additionally, on January 14, there is the Media Day at the Range, where manufacturers like Federal, Colt, Sig, and others get everyone out on the range to show off there wares.

I will be at the Media Day and at the SHOT Show.  I will post photos and information from the manufacturers as I am able to from the convention with more detailed write-ups in the following days and weeks.

Stay tuned!  It is bound to be another exciting show!
