In a March 2009 analysis published by the Unified Sportsmen of Florida, hunting is the safest sport enjoyed in the United States.
With only 239 injuries reported annually, only two injuries happen per 100,000 hunters each year. Compare this to the 4722 injuries in billards (15 per 100,000) and 37,891 injuries in golf (155 per 100,000). In fact hunting had both the lowest total number of injuries and the lowest number per 100,000 of the 23 sports studied.
The popular media would have you believe that firearms are inherently dangerous and just being around guns increases your likelyhood of injury or death. Last year, about 14.6 million people participated in hunting, and far fewer hunters were injured than people playing volleyball, bowling, tennis, or even just riding a bicycle.
Frankly, shooting guns would seem to be the safest sport anyone could be involved in.
