The Ruger LCR polymer revolver

The Ruger LCR is now shipping.  My local dealer does not know when he may get any in, so if anyone is able to put their hands on one, please let us know what you think.

The Ruger LCR is a five-shot, .38 Special revolver that uses polymer as a significant portion of the frame.  It is designed to be a lightweight concealed-carry or back-up firearm.

I shot the LCR at the Media Day at the Range prior to the 2009 SHOT Show, and I was very impressed.  The LCR had a very nice trigger, good sights for a small revolver, and the recoil was pleasant for a gun this size.  I think Ruger has developed a gun that can go head to head with the Smith and Wesson “hammerless” revolvers.

I just got one yesterday and immediately took it to the range. All I could find was +P 158g ammo. Recoil was manageable but far from pleasant. 100rds later and I have a bruise and a blister to show for it.
I really really like it. Trigger is amazing compared to some of the other guns in this class. Very easy to shoot accurately whether pulling straight through or squeezing for the hammer drop. In a dimly lit indoor range the black sights on a black silhouette were a bit tough. In spite of this the gun points well and it was very easy to stay in the body mass of a small silhouette target.
Price paid was 440 plus tax.

Wes,

Thanks for the feedback! I’m glad to hear the LCR’s are getting into the hands of the shooters now.

Yeah, the 158gr +P is about the heaviest load you can find for the .38, so I would imagine it would beat you up a little.

I also thought the trigger was very good. Probably the real selling point for me.

I’ve been looking around wake county for an LCR. Who might have them in stores now?

Bought one today and was highly impressed. Trigger was great, accuracy was adequate 2-3″ at 25 feet, offhand. It’s my new “don’t want to bother with a gun today, BUT!!!!!

Picked mine up today, did the ten day countdown once again. Unbelievable how nice the grip sits in my hand and the pull through is very smooth. Got mine through an L.E.O., I have not been able to find them anywhere else.

Shot mine for the first time yesterday. Shot 50 rnds and it does have a little bite. Trigger pull was good. First shot very accurate. I love it.
Now I need to find a +P load.
