That does make economic sense, as Winchester would not want to fire up all of the machinery to make brass for a limited appeal cartridge when they could just buy some from a factory already making the stuff. Don't take that as a slight toward the 7.62 x 54R cartridge! I love the cartridge and have several guns chambered for it (two M44's and a 1930). -Richard Carl,
