Bianchi Model 7 Shadow II Holster Review

By Richard on August 19, 2009 1 Comments

Bianchi Shadow HolsterThe Bianchi Model 7 Shadow II is a belt holster made of soft leather with a thumb snap. The Shadow has several belt slots to allow the user to wear the holster with the handgun straight up, with a forward cant or even cross-draw. This Bianchi holster is made for a wide range of popular handguns, including compact and full-sized pistols and revolvers.  Reasonably priced, the Model 7 promises a quality holster at a reasonable price. But, does Bianchi deliver? With a single caveat, I believe it does.

I’ve owned a Model 7 for several years, and have worn it on an occasional basis. Generally, my attire is more suited to an inside-the-waistband holster, but during colder months and for the occasional open carry event the Bianchi did get more frequent use.  Additionally, on long car trips I would tend to wear this holster rather than an IWB for comfort reasons. Remington 597 Rifles and .17 HMR Ammunition Recall

By Richard on August 18, 2009 13 Comments

remington_logoRemington Arms Co. has announced a major rifle recall, and a serious warning on .17 HMR ammunition.  Remington is immediately recalling all of the Model 597 rifles chambered for the .17 HMR.  Remington is not offering any repairs, rather they are issuing coupons of $200-250 for a replacement Remington rifle and refunding the shipping costs of sending the rifle back.

Additionally, Remington announced that their .17 HMR ammunition is not to be used in semi-auto firearms.  Stating that the use of Remington .17 HMR ammunition in a semi-auto firearm “…could result in property damage or serious personal injury.”  People wanting to return the ammo will be issued $10 coupons for each box of 50 they return. Americans Support Right-to-Carry

By Richard on August 17, 2009 4 Comments

According to a recent Zogby poll, 83% of Americans support Right to Carry laws. I am guessing that you didn’t see that reported in your local paper or on the national news. I did not, but maybe I just missed it.

When asked  “Currently, 39 states have laws that allow residents to carry firearms to protect themselves, only if they pass a background check and pay a fee to cover administrative costs. Most of those states also require applicants to have firearms safety training. Do you support or oppose this law?”, 83% responded they support these laws, while only 11% indicated they opposed them.

Of course, that kind of common sense thinking has no place in the media.  Instead, the media preferred to report on the defeat of the Thune-Vitter amendment, an amendment that received a majority vote in favor of it, but failed to pass the “super majority” required by Senate Democrats. Read More…

Charter Arms Revamps Site, Updates Rimless Revolver Ship Date

By Richard on August 16, 2009 No Comments

Charter Arms has revamped their website, making it more asthetically pleasing.  Take a look at CharterArms.com.

charter_logoOne interesting piece of information on their site is about the Rimless Revolver.  Charter Arms is stating the CARR will be available in early 2010, which matches the information a marketing rep shared with me last week.

So, it looks like we should be able to get a look at these new revolvers at the 2010 SHOT Show.  I will be there again this year, so definitely check back for full information and photos then!

SB-2099: The Truth About The “Gun Tax Bill”

By Richard on August 16, 2009 No Comments

I didn’t know this old rumor was still going ’round.  From the NRA-ILA:

Over the past few months, NRA-ILA has received hundreds of e-mails warning us about “SB-2099,” a bill that would supposedly require you to report all your guns on your income tax return every April 15.

Like many rumors, there’s just a grain of truth to this one. Read More…

Galco Summer Comfort IWB Holster

By Richard on August 14, 2009 7 Comments

Galco Summer Comfort HolsterThe Galco Summer Comfort is an inside-the-waistband (IWB) holster designed for both pistols and revolvers.  The Summer Comfort is a leather holster in the style of the classic Milt Sparks Summer Special.

I purchased my Summer Comfort more than 10 years ago, and have used it extensively with my Glock 19.  The Summer Comfort has held up very well, and I have certainly gotten my money’s worth from it.

My Summer Comfort holster is tan, but the Galco rep I spoke with at the 2009 SHOT Show said they will only be made in black from now on.  When asked why, the rep replied that customer demand for black holsters was the majority of the business on this style holster.  While I prefer tan, the black samples I held at the SHOT Show were very nice. Charter Arms Rimless Revolver Still MIA

By Richard on August 13, 2009 No Comments

charter_arms_rimlessAfter being announced in November of 2008, Charter Arms has not yet released, or even publicly shown, the new Rimless Revolver.  After missing an April ’09 shipping date, a company representative told me that “late July” was the new ship date for the first Charter Arms Rimless Revolvers.

Now that time has come and gone.  So what’s the story?

After I published an article questioning if the CARR is real or just vaporware, Charter Arms sent out a press release two days later stating that the Rimless Revolver “… is tested, patent checked, cleared and ready for production.”  And that “…the CARR is not vaporware…”

So, if it is real, why the delay?  Would you believe President Barack Obama? Read More…

Stark Equipment SE-2 AR-15 Grips with Sling Mount

By Richard on August 12, 2009 No Comments

stark_se2_02Stark Equipment is now shipping their latest product, the SE-2 Sling Grip for AR-15 style rifles. The SE-2 is the first AR-15 pistol grip to be integrated with an ambidextrous sling mount.

The SE-2 is available in two versions. The Hook Mount provides a loop compatible with most common sling hooks.  The Swivel Mount allows the attachment of push-button sling swivels.

The SE-2′s sling mount is located above the hand and below the buffer tube, with a low profile design that stays out of the way of even fully collapsed M4-style stocks. When added to AR pistols, the SE-2 provides excellent one-handed control while providing sling attachment that doesn’t clutter up the receiver extension. Read More…
