Wilson Combat Lo-Profile Thumb Break Holster

By Richard on September 18, 2009 1 Comments

picture-21Wilson Combat introduced the Lo-Profile Thumb Break holster.  From Wilson Combat:

The Lo-Profile Thumb Break holster was designed for the person that carries all day long and demands maximum comfort and concealability, but wants the added security of a Thumb Break.

This holster’s pancake style design actually conforms to the shape of the waist, blending its lines to those of the person wearing it. This feature has obvious benefits for concealment, but also helps the holster feel more comfortable with less likelihood of it hanging up on objects or shifting position.

The two-belt slot design positions the holster with a slight forward cant while providing incredible stability. This carry position offers maximum comfort and concealability while allowing a very smooth draw from just about any position.

The low-cut front will have you clearing leather just above the belt line. The Thumb Break Strap was designed not only to keep the pistol secure, but to protect the rear sight and the thumb safety as well. This makes an excellent carry holster for anyone wanting the security of a thumb break.

Retail price is $129.95 and is available at WilsonCombat.com.

RKBA Holsters Adds Sig P238 Holster to Line-Up

By Richard on September 17, 2009 No Comments

p238RKBA Holsters, makers of leather pocket holsters, announced they are now making pocket holsters for the Sig Sauer P238.

The Sig P238 has been a hot seller this year, and demand for quality holsters has been heavy.  RKBA Holsters stepped up with their new P238 pocket holster to help fill the void.

I previously reviewed the pocket holsters from RKBA Holsters, and I found that they are quality holsters, that do the job well, at a great price.

Right now, shipping time is estimated at 2-3 weeks.  I found that RKBA Holsters ships very quickly, and is very responsive to e-mail inquiries.

At only $36, including shipping, you would be hard pressed to find a less-expensive leather pocket holster.

Click here for the SIG P238 information page.

SIG516: A Sig Sauer AR-15?

By Richard on September 16, 2009 No Comments

Steve at The Firearm Blog is reporting Sig Sauer showed the SIG516, a AR-15 style rifle, at the Defence Systems & Equipment International (DSEi 2009) show in England, UK.

The SIG516 shown was a short barrel carbine, obviously designed for the military market, and was manufactured at Sig’s New Hampshire facility.

Additional information, including photographs, is available at The Firearm Blog.  Excellent work by Steve to locate this information!

Henry Keeps the Famous AR-7 Survival Rifle Alive

By Richard on September 16, 2009 No Comments

henry_ar7_01Henry Repeating Arms continues to manufacture the famous AR-7 Air Force Survival Rifle.  These semi-auto, rimfire rifles disassemble into three parts: the stock, barrel, and receiver.  The barrel and receiver then stow in the waterproof, floating stock, making the rifle compact for storage, and resistant to harsh environments.  No tools are needed, and the rifle can be reassembled in about 30 seconds.

Chambered in .22 Long Rifle the Henry AR-7 can handle both standard- and high-velocity rounds.  The detachable magazines hold eight cartridges. Read More…

Tampa PD Purchase of S&W M&P Pistols Delayed

By Richard on September 15, 2009 No Comments

Back in May I reported that the Tampa, FL Police Department appeared to be ready to purchase the Smith & Wesson M&P 40 pistols.  It looks like this purchase is definite, but delayed.

Speaking to one of the Tampa PD firearms instructors, I found out that budget cuts have pushed the purchase of the new pistols back to “around January” of 2010.  The instructor also told me that the department has already taken delivery of the new holsters for the M&P, and have sent their armorers to the S&W armorer school.

So, it would seem that the deal is almost certain at this point, just the timing has been thrown off due to the city’s budget woes.

The move to the M&P 40 is away from the 9mm series of Glock pistols.

Wilson Combat Night Hunter Hog & Predator Hunting Light

By Richard on September 14, 2009 1 Comments

whatsnewWilson Combat introduced a new rifle light designed specifically for night hunting of hog and predators.  From Wilson Combat:

Texas and other states allow night hunting of wild hogs and various predators. You can’t shoot what you can’t see, so Bill Wilson an avid TX hog and predator hunter developed the Night Hunter Rifle Light specifically for this purpose.

Bright LED white light is activated by a rear pressure switch (momentary or constant on) and allows you to shoot a precise shot at distances out to 150 yards. Unit is easy to install with NO modification to your rifle and consists of the following:

  • Wilson Combat High Intensity Focused Beam LED Light (100 hour runtime on 3 AAAs, included)
  • Quick Detach (QD) Mounting Ring
  • Scope Accessory Rail (SAR), Scope to Light Interface Mount

Note: Recommended for “slick barrel” (front iron sights often interfere with the beam of the light) rifles only.

High Noon Holsters for Taurus 709 Slim and Sig Sauer P238

High Noon Holsters Tailgunner

High Noon Holsters Tailgunner

I’ve recently had multiple e-mails asking who is making holsters for the Taurus 709 (aka the Slim) and the Sig Sauer P238.  Based on how well both of these guns have been selling, I imagine their is a great deal of demand for quality holsters for these firearms.

If you are in the market for a holster for the 709 or P238, you should check out High Noon Holsters.  Based in Tarpon Springs, FL, High Noon Holsters makes a variety of high-quality holsters in many different styles, including models for the Taurus Slim and Sig P238.

Holsters for the Taurus 709 can be had in belt holsters, paddle holsters, and IWBs.  For a good inside-the-waistband holster, check out the Tailgunner model.

High Noon Holsters Slide Guard

High Noon Holsters Slide Guard

Holsters for the Sig P238 are available in belt and pocket styles.  For the belt slide type holster, I like their Slide Guard, as it is an open top holster with a protective strip of leather to protect the wearer from uncomfortable slide chaffing.  However, the P238 is small enough to ride in a pocket, meaning the Pocket Grabber might be of more interest to you.

High Noon Holsters is not the only company making holsters for the 709 and 238, but they are a quality company and deserve a look if you are in need.

NC Highway Patrol Leaves Sig Sauer, Goes Smith & Wesson

By Richard on September 13, 2009 2 Comments

smithwesson_mp40The North Carolina Highway Patrol recently made a significant shift in their firearms by selecting the Smith & Wesson M&P pistols and rifles for their troopers.  Previously carrying the Sig Sauer P229 DAK, the Patrol has adopted the S&W M&P pistols chambered in .357 Sig.

The initial order is 2000 pistols, which is enough to equip all of the troopers.  According to S&W, “reliability, ambidextrous operating controls and three interchangeable palm swell grip sizes were noted by officials within the agency as key reasons for the selection of the new duty sidearm.”

Additionally, the NC Highway Patrol selected the M&P 15 rifle for the troopers.  S&W states that 1000 rifles have been ordered by the Patrol.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is one of many U.S. law enforcement agencies converting to the M&P pistols and rifles.  S&W states that 570 U.S. agencies issue or approve the M&P pistols for duty use, and more than 250 issue or approve the M&P 15 rifles.
