Chiappa Firearms Rhino: New Revolver with a Twist
Posted by: | Comments
Chiappa Firearms is introducing a new revolver: the Rhino. This compact six-shot .357 Magnum revolver looks different than many contemporary revolvers, and for good reason: the barrel is aligned with the bottom of the cylinder, not the top.
Chiappa aligned the barrel with the bottom of the cylinder to put the bore more in line with the shooter’s hand, which would reduce perceived recoil and muzzle flip, in addition to creating a more natural point of aim.
Chiappa claims the Rhino can use very lightweight metal alloys due to the reduced perceived recoil. However, the 2″ barrel Rhino has a stated weight of 0.7 kg, or about 25 ounces, which is slightly heavier than the 2 1/8″ barrel Smith & Wesson 640 (23 ounces). But for that extra two ounces, the shooter does gain an additional round (Rhino’s six to S&W’s five). Read More→
Ruger SR-22 Rifle: New Ruger Gun in .22 LR
Posted by: | CommentsSturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE-RGR) announces the introduction of the Ruger® SR-22TM Rifle, an autoloading, rimfire rifle that combines the legendary reliability of the Ruger® 10/22® with the ergonomics and configurability of the new AR-style Ruger SR-556TM. The new SR-22 Rifle allows shooters to use economical .22 LR ammunition, while still enjoying the look and feel of an “AR” and experiencing the reliability they have come to appreciate from Ruger.
Because it utilizes the unique rotary magazine supplied with the Ruger 10/22, the SR-22 Rifle offers the same gold standard for reliability in autoloading rimfire rifles. Like the 10/22, the AR-style SR-22 Rifle also has an extensive array of accessories available, allowing shooters to select a custom configuration that best suits their tastes and needs.
The SR-22 Rifle uses a standard 10/22 action inside a top-quality, all-aluminum chassis that faithfully replicates the AR-platform dimensions between the sighting plane, buttstock height, and grip. The SR-22 Rifle provides a Picatinny rail optic mount, and includes a six-position, telescoping M4-style buttstock (on a Mil-Spec diameter tube), plus a Hogue® Monogrip® pistol grip. Buttstocks and grips may be swapped out for any AR-style compatible option. Read More→

Henry Repeating Arms continues to manufacture the famous AR-7 Air Force Survival Rifle. These semi-auto, rimfire rifles disassemble into three parts: the stock, barrel, and receiver. The barrel and receiver then stow in the waterproof, floating stock, making the rifle compact for storage, and resistant to harsh environments. No tools are needed, and the rifle can be reassembled in about 30 seconds.
Chambered in .22 Long Rifle the Henry AR-7 can handle both standard- and high-velocity rounds. The detachable magazines hold eight cartridges. Read More→
Tampa PD Purchase of S&W M&P Pistols Delayed
Posted by: | CommentsBack in May I reported that the Tampa, FL Police Department appeared to be ready to purchase the Smith & Wesson M&P 40 pistols. It looks like this purchase is definite, but delayed.
Speaking to one of the Tampa PD firearms instructors, I found out that budget cuts have pushed the purchase of the new pistols back to “around January” of 2010. The instructor also told me that the department has already taken delivery of the new holsters for the M&P, and have sent their armorers to the S&W armorer school.
So, it would seem that the deal is almost certain at this point, just the timing has been thrown off due to the city’s budget woes.
The move to the M&P 40 is away from the 9mm series of Glock pistols.
