SureFire LX2 LumaMax 200 Lumens Flashlight

By Richard on September 11, 2009 2 Comments

surefire_lx2_01SureFire introduced the LX2 LumaMax, a 200 lumens flashlight.  The LX2 is an evolution of the SureFire L2 line, making it SureFire’s first commercial LED light capable of 200 lumens.

From SureFire:

SureFire, LLC, manufacturer of high-end illumination tools and tactical products, has announced the release of its new LX2 LumaMax® flashlight. The LX2 is the natural evolution of the popular L2 LumaMax® flashlight introduced by SureFire in 2004. It features a cutting-edge design with higher output and longer runtime than its predecessor.

When it was first introduced five years ago, the L2 featured state-of-the-art flashlight technology, with a two-stage light emitting diode (LED) that produced 15 lumens of useful light at its low setting and 100 lumens of tactical-level light at its high setting.

The new LX2 follows in the L2′s footsteps but makes strides of its own. It features the same lower output level but with double the maximum output, making it the first commercially available SureFire LED flashlight to produce an incredible 200 lumens of light, 10 times that of a typical two-D-cell flashlight. What’s more, the LX2 has double the total runtime of the L2.

SureFire engineers redesigned the L2 from the ground up to create the new LX2. They first shaved three quarters of an inch from the L2′s overall length to give the LX2 a more compact 5.4-inch body. Next, the L2′s rough-knurled body was replaced by a smooth body with flutes CNC-machined into it for a smooth yet functional grip that won’t wear down clothing.

Like the L2, the body is coated in Mil-Spec Type III hard anodizing, and an optically coated Borofloat® window maximizes light transmission while protecting the LED. Finally, SureFire’s proprietary reversible pocket clip was added for convenient carry-bezel up or down or even clipped to the bill of a cap.

New Kahr PM9 Pistol Introduced: PM9193 and PM9193N

By Richard on September 10, 2009 5 Comments

kahr_pm9_01aKahr Arms announced two new PM9 pistols: the PM9193 and the PM9193N.  The new pistols feature an external safety and loaded chamber indicators.  Kahr stated that the PM9 pistols were manufactured to meet the regulatory requirements of a few states.  The original PM9 remains in the Kahr line-up.

From Kahr:

Kahr Arms is proud to introduce a new model of their popular PM9 pistol. The new model, available as the PM9193 and PM9193N, includes a loaded chamber indicator and external safety feature.

Loaded Chamber Indicator -The new model is designed to provide physical indication if there is a casing loaded in the chamber. The product is designed with a lever mounted on the top of slide. The lever is marked as Indicator in red lettering. When a shell casing is chambered the casing pushes the lever upward and out of position. The operator will visually see the lever as it is raised up. Also the operator will be able to feel the indicator as being out of its normal resting position as it will not be flush with the top of the slide, thus warning the operator that the firearm is loaded.

External Safety -The new model has, in addition to the internal safety, an external safety that will prevent the firearm from firing when the safety is in safe position. The product has an external lever with two settings. When the lever is pushed up the red dot is visible; the firearm is in the armed position and ready to fire with the pull of the trigger. When the lever is pushed down, the red dot is hidden and the firearm is in safe position and will not function with the pull of the trigger. The safety works in the following sequence. When the lever is in down (Safe) position the connecting cam on the lever pushes the trigger bar out of position thus disconnecting it from the cocking cam. Thus, even when the trigger is pulled, there is no contact between the trigger bar and the cocking cam and thus there is no fire. When the lever is pushed up (fire/armed position) the cam moves out of place and the trigger bar moves up, again connecting with the cocking cam and ready to fire with the pull of the trigger.

This new model PM9 is introduced to comply with certain state regulations for firearms. The standard model PM9 will also remain available for purchase.

MSRP for the PM9193 is $924. The PM9193N has an MSRP of $1049.

Carry Concealed? Join the US Concealed Carry Association!

By Richard on September 8, 2009 4 Comments

The U.S. Concealed Carry Association is an organization founded by Tim Schmidt to address the unique needs and concerns of law abiding U.S. citizens exercising their rights to carry a firearm for self defense.

The USCCA professes to be “the ultimate resource for the law-abiding, armed citizen.” With a library of articles on the website, an active member forum, a full color magazine, a weekly e-mail newsletter, and a store featuring training videos and more, the USCCA certainly goes a long way to back up that claim.

Part of your membership includes “Concealed Carry Magazine.” Concealed Carry Magazine is a full color, glossy magazine published by USCCA eight times each year. The magazine features product reviews, profiles of regular people who carry a concealed firearm, and plenty of practical training information. Unlike some of the newsstand gun magazines, the product reviews are honest, you can really relate to the people interviewed, and the tactics and training relate to the average citizen carrying a gun for self defense (not some tacti-cool SWAT tactics).

The website features an active member forum, which can be quite lively at times. Also on the site are member classified ads, informative articles, and a complete archive of all of the past Concealed Carry Magazine issues in PDF files.

The e-mail newsletter is also informative combining editorial pieces, product reviews, brief training tips, and other interesting information. The e-mail newsletter is free, and you do not even have to be a member to receive it.

USCCA is a great organization for the armed citizen. I am a member and wholeheartedly recommend membership.

2010 Shot Show

By Richard on September 8, 2009 No Comments

We are only four short months from the 2010 SHOT Show in Las Vegas, NV.  And yes, we will be there.

The 2010 SHOT Show promises to be a great one.  Several manufacturers held back on new products at the 2009 SHOT Show due to the overwhelming demand for the products they were already producing.  Companies like Charter Arms said they were not going to introduce anything they wouldn’t be able to deliver.

So, at the 2010 SHOT Show, we should see a lot of new products.  As you did with the ’09 Show, stay tuned here for all of the latest announcements, photos, and reports.

Explosions Rock Prvi Partizan Ammunition Factory

By Richard on September 7, 2009 No Comments

A Prvi Partizan ammunition factory was rocked by four explosions last week, killing at least six and sending more than 10 more to local hospitals.  At this time, there are no details on what caused the explosions or what impact this will have on their ammunition manufacturing.

From the UK’s Telegraph:

Ammunitions factory explosions kill at least six in Serbia

Four explosions at an ammunitions factory in western Serbia killed six people and wounded at least eight on Thursday, a police official said.

Police, firefighters and the military sealed off the area around the Prvi Partizan ammunition factory in the town of Uzice, some 100 miles west of the capital Belgrade, said Deputy Interior Minister Predrag Maric.

“Rescuers found six bodies inside an ammunition loading facility. That’s the death toll. The injured people have been admitted to hospital,” Mr Maric said.

Prvi Partizan is Serbia’s largest ammunition factory. It produces military and hunting ammunition as well as gun powder and explosives.

Mr Maric said firefighters had “doused the fires and there is no danger of more explosions”. He did not elaborate about the causes of the blast pending the end of the initial investigation.

Interior Minister Ivica Dacic was on his way to the site, said a ministry spokeswoman.

Serbian defence industries have stepped up production in past two years, mainly exporting to Iraq, Libya, the United States and Burma. The total value of export deals in 2008 exceeded $600 million.

Serbian Defence Minister Dragan Sutanovac said last week that Serbia had secured a $100 million export deal for weapons and military equipment to Iraq.
