I googled this picture and found out where they sell those stickers – they have yard signs too with Nothing Inside Is Worth Dying For http://www.readytodefend.com I’m definitely getting some.

You may want to rethink putting ANY sign like this up.

IF you did indeed have to shoot and kill someone. “they” would use that sign to show your ‘pre-meditated” intent to take a life. In the end, you may be justified, but you WILL open a can of worms with something like that. That also goes for saying things to your friends/family like: “I’ll just blast them if they break into my place” They WILL subpoena everyone in your life they think will help their case.

    My two-cents.

Wayne, Are you kidding me? If that were true then, if someone was shocked or killed by an electric fence with “warning electric shock, voltage dangerous to life” signs on the fence, the person owning said fence would be guilty of premeditated assault in the case of a shock or manslaughter in case of death.
    That is just nonsense.
The application doesn’t stop there, any warning label would then constitute a premeditation by said person or company, from beware of dog to smoking causes cancer.
As a lawyer, and a gun owner, working for the Chicago Bar Association for the last 13 years I can personally say, there is no precedent that I know of and I can’t think of any judge for that matter that wouldn’t throw that out of court.
May be you should do some research before talking out of your bottom.
I would encourage someone to post a sign like this or any warning sign for that matter.
1 to deter any possible assailant.
2 to cover your butt by being able to say “Hey, I had a warning sign, and the assailant still tried to attack me. I WAS AFRAID FOR MY LIFE!”

I’d have to side with Leo on this topic. I checked out their website and this got me thinking.

If you’re stupid enough to pole-vault into an electric substation, it’s going to be hard to say the electric company enticed the idiot to commit suicide by posting warnings showing the possible consequences. C’mon!

It would be my guess that if two people were indicted for shooting or killing an intruder under similar circumstances, regardless of whether their state had a self-defense law on the books, the guy posting a warning sign or decal has a stronger defense. If they even needed one at all.

Maybe most important, criminals are looking for the easiest targets. Basic psychology suggests they would see something like this and pick another house.

So, all things being equal it seems to me NOT posting a warning seems to me a bigger liability. Particularly if you actually WOULD shoot an intruder.

Isn’t that the reason that people have Beware of Dog signs posted when you have a dog that might bite in your back yard? We’ve all heard of lawsuits against owners of dogs who bite. Or is it just for security? I wonder.

All that being said, I think these guys might be on to something. Posting a warning looks like a good insurance to me.

There are laws protecting property owners from lawsuits like this. (please don’t quote Liar Liar in defense of this) if someone comes on to your property you have a legal right to defend it and as far as im concerned this is just due warning! Its people like you that clog up the legal system with worthless frivolous lawsuits!

Probable depends where you live. In some of the more liberal states the sign might be a problem. Where i live in Alabama the law would say you warned him. Also by breaking into a occupied home you are considered a treat and can be shot and probable will be as we are one of the most armed states in the USA.. Plus you do not have to retreat anywhere in you own home because your home is your castle..

Listen up everyone! Leo’s a Lawyer on the intarnets! Wayne never said that he agreed with what he was saying, just stating that it could be used against you… and while you crazy kids in Chicago obviously enjoy freedom from prosecution for various degrees of murder and manslaughter… there are plenty of states that have more stringent gun laws, and they LOVE making examples of people. Not saying it make sense, is just, or right.. just saying that I’ve seen plenty of bullshit when it comes to people defending themselves.. and plenty of it regarding the ‘castle’ defense. Don’t say ‘never’ too loud… that’s all I’m trying to say.

As long as the intruder/ trespasser can not press charges for any type of assault,( deceased ) then all the DA’s can do is refer to a grand jury. In Texas it does not go that far, Castle Doctrine.

Leo, Congratulations, a Lawyer and “legal” gun owner in the Chicago area, one of the toughest gun control areas in the US outside of California, ESP S.F area.

Thanks Bert, there aren’t many states with more stringent gun laws than Illinois.
This isn’t a gun law issue though and Harvey Birdman has a small point in there somewhere.
In the instance where someone is injured,
I know of no precedent where a “Warning sign” shows intent, or no one would ever put a warning label on anything. This does not mean one does not exist for actually hurting someone(these are 2 totally different things), the best thing to do in everyone’s case is to check your local laws and statutes there are some weird ones out there. Here is just 1 of many free sites that you could use to do some quick research.

I respect the effect of Missouri’s castle law. If someone messes with a person or his property there is no requirement on the part of the victim to flee. One may drop the perp dead in his tracks without little prospects of legal consequences.

Dok Holliday the problem with shooting for body mass is that you end up with a situation like we have in Texas. You end up with the butt head still alive. Now we have to keep that sucker alive. he will be a drain on the countries resources for the rest of his no good for nothing life. My theory is “Never point a gun at someone unless you intend to kill them”. Otherwise they wil kill you.

I like the sign! A clear warning against home invasion. Great deterrent to crime as the perpetrator most likely will not live to repeat the offense!

My concern with a sign like this would be someone seeing that sign, assuming that I have guns and waiting until I’m gone to break in and get them. I’d personally rather surprise them. I like the sign a lot though. It reminds me of my father who had a signs up that said: “Never Mind the Dog, Beware of Owner” and “Property Protected by Smith & Wesson”.
