Washington State Patrol goes to the S&W M&P40

By Richard on October 15, 2009 3 Comments

Smith & Wesson announced that the Washington State Patrol ordered 1400 M&P40 pistols to issue to all of their officers.

smithwesson_mp40The Washington State Patrol is the latest law enforcement agency to convert to the M&P pistol.  Hundreds of other agencies issue or approve the duty carry of the S&W M&P, including the Milwaukee PD, DEA, Detroit PD, Atlanta PD, Iowa State Patrol, New Hampshire State Police, and the New Mexico State Police to name just a few.

It would seem that S&W is once again a serious player in the law enforcement market.

From Smith & Wesson:

Smith & Wesson Holding Corporation (Nasdaq: SWHC), parent company of Smith & Wesson Corp., the legendary 157-year old company in the global business of safety, security, protection and sport, announced today that the Washington State Patrol (WSP) has selected firearms from the company’s Military & Police (M&P) Pistol Series for duty use. The Smith & Wesson M&P40, which is made in the United States, will be issued to each officer of the Washington State Patrol to replace firearms supplied by a European-based manufacturer that had previously served as the primary duty sidearm. The Washington State Patrol has ordered 1,400 M&P40 pistols. The company has also recently completed shipments of 1,300 M&P pistols to be used by the Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC).

The WSP selected the M&P pistol after an extensive testing and evaluation process, which included various competitors. State Patrol evaluators indicated that the M&P pistol incorporated several key features including enhanced ergonomics and ambidextrous controls that are valuable for their officers. The evaluators added that the polymer pistol’s interchangeable grip sizes, ease of maintenance and level of support offered by Smith & Wesson were all primary factors in their recommendation that the WSP acquire the M&P pistol. In addition to the State Patrol’s high remarks on the performance of the M&P pistol during testing, officials at Washington State DOC commended Smith & Wesson for its customer service, product warranty and armorer’s training conducted by the company.

“Contracts from departments such as the Washington State Patrol and other various organizations within the Washington State DOC, demonstrate the diversity of the M&P pistol series as well as the ability of the M&P product line to meet a broad range of applications and requirements,” said Leland Nichols, Smith & Wesson’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “The recent orders from the multiple state agencies within Washington include contracts for not only the M&P40 but also for the M&P9 and M&P45 pistol. Our ability to supply each of these agencies with duty firearms that meet their individual needs reflects our continuing commitment to provide law enforcement personnel with the most advanced and innovative products in the marketplace.”

Divisions within the Washington DOC that have converted to the M&P pistol include the Correctional Facility, Women’s Correction Facility and the Washington State Penitentiary along with several other state institutions.

MasterPiece Arms Produces MAC-10 with Side Cocking Mechanism

By Richard on October 15, 2009 No Comments

From MasterPiece Arms:masterpiece_arms_mac10

MasterPiece Arms, the nation’s only true MAC-10 manufacturer, is known for their innovative alterations to the traditional MAC-10. MPA has taken the simplicity of the firearm’s function to a new level of versatility with the implementation of a side-cocking mechanism.

The placement of the cocking handle has been an issue for some with the MAC-10. Traditionally sitting on top of the barrel, the handle can cause an obstruction of view through the gun’s sights for some shooters. MasterPiece Arms saw this as a creative challenge and emerged with a new design for the cocking mechanism, the side-cocker.

Placing the cocking handle on the side of the gun removes any obstruction from the line of sight on top of the barrel. Additionally, MPA techs have placed a scope mount on the vacant space atop the barrel. With the ability to add your own optics, your MAC-10 becomes customized to your needs to give you the best results and the maximum accuracy available.

MasterPiece Arms uses state of the art CNC machining, turning, laser cutting and bending in its manufacturing process. MPA puts more than a year and a half into engineering, testing and re-testing its weapons to provide customers with one of the most enjoyable guns available. With versatile uses such as protection, hunting, tactical or novelty interests, MPA products are one of a kind and backed by a lifetime warranty for original owners.

Charter Arms Crimson Patriot

By Richard on October 11, 2009 1 Comments

Charter Arms is offering a new revolver package: the Crimson Patriot.

The Crimson Patriot is a .327 Federal Magnum revolver from the Charter Arms Patriot line.  It has a 2.2″ barrel and ships from the factory with the Crimson Trace LG-325 Lasergrips.

The Crimson Patriot shares many of the features of the standard Patriot revolver.  The Crimson Patriot is a six-shot, exposed hammer revolver made of stainless steel that weighs 21 ounces unloaded.  It has fixed sights, using a ramp front and notch rear.  The big difference is the addition of the rubber overmold Lasergrips.

The suggested retail on the Charter Arms Crimson Patriot is $650.00.  Considering the standard Patriot retails for $469.00 and the Crimson Trace LG-325 Lasergrips retail at $299.00, the Crimson Patriot retail price represents a significant savings as compared to adding the grips yourself ($768 vs. $650).

Micor Industries AR-15 Flash Suppressor

By Richard on October 3, 2009 No Comments

micor_011Brownells announced they are now carrying the Micor Industries AR-15/M-16 flash suppressor.  Manufactured at Micor’s shop in Dacatur, AL, the flash suppressor employs a series of slots that match the twist rate of your barrel (1:7, 1:8, or 1:9 only), which they claim reduce muzzle climb and improve accuracy, in addition to reducing muzzle flash.

The Micor flash suppressor is CNC machined steel with a black Melonite finish.  Micor also offers suppressors machined from 6AL4V titanium for extreme conditions.

The Micor flash suppressor is 2″ long, weighs 2.4 ounces (steel version), and includes a crush washer.  Micor states the suppressors are made to allow the attachment of a blank firing adapter or a noise suppressor.

There are a variety of flash suppressors on the market, each with their own set of benefits.  If you are in the market for a suppressor for your AR build, give the Micor a look to see if it makes sense for your application.  The 1:9 twist suppressor is available from Brownells, while the 1:8 and 1:7 must be ordered directly from Micor.
