More “Gen 4″ Glock Information?

By Richard on November 16, 2009 No Comments

[Update 12/18/2009: Gen 4 Glock photo is here.]

During the past months I have been bringing you information about the new “Gen 4 Glock” pistols that are due at the 2010 SHOT Show.  One of the features that I believe the fourth generation Glock pistols will have is a reversible magazine release.

In the latest Safariland holster fitting charts (dated September 24, 2009), the company lists Glock 17, 19, 22, and 23 pistols with a “dual magazine release” under a separate entry from the Glock 17, etc.  Are these the new Glock pistols?

National Ammo Day

By Aaron on November 15, 2009 No Comments

For what it is worth, November 19 is National Ammo Day.  On that day organizers want every gun owner to purchase 100 rounds of ammunition as a show of support for ammo manufacturers.

From the National Ammo Day website:

The goals of Ammo Day

The goal of National Ammo Day is to empty the ammunition from the shelves of your local gun store, sporting goods, or hardware store and put that ammunition in the hands of law-abiding citizens.  Make your support of the Second Amendment known–by voting with your dollars!

There are an estimated 75 MILLION gun owners in the United States of America.  If each gun owner or Second Amendment supporter buys 100 rounds of ammunition, that’s 7.5 BILLION rounds in the hands of law-abiding citizens!

The gun/ammunition manufacturers have been taking the brunt of all the frivolous lawsuits, trying to put these folks out of business.  Well, not if we can help it!  And we CAN help it by buying ammunition on November 19!

Hornady Introduces the 6.5 Creedmoor to the Hunting World

By Richard on November 15, 2009 No Comments

hornady_creemoorThe 6.5 Creedmoor was designed as a competitive cartridge for precision rifle shooting.  With the introduction of two new Hornady loads, the 6.5 Creedmoor is now a serious hunting cartridge.

Hornady is now offering 6.5 Creedmoor loads with the 120 grain GMX bullet and with the 129 grain SST bullet.  Hornady states the 6.5 Creedmoor loads are “perfect for any North American game up to and including elk.”

Delivery of the new rounds is expected around March of 2010.

The 6.5 Creedmoor loads are part of Hornady’s new Superformance line of ammunition.  The Superformance ammo promises to improve velocities by 100-200 fps without an increase in recoil, muzzle blast, or other typical side-effect.

Hornady Critical Defense 12 Gauge Ammunition

By Aaron on November 14, 2009 No Comments

hornady_cd_02Hornady added a 00-buck 12 gauge round to its line of popular Critical Defense ammunition.

This 12 gauge round is a 2 3/4″ shell with eight .33 caliber pellets.  Hornaday is using the Versatite wad for “ultra-tight” patterns from standard production shotguns.

Hornady promises proper functioning in both pump and semi-auto shotguns.

New Gen 4 Glock Information

By Richard on November 14, 2009 2 Comments

[Update 12/18/2009: Gen 4 Glock photo is here.]

More information on the new Gen 4 Glock pistols was leaked this week on the Handgun Podcast.  Host Eric Shelton described three new features of the fourth generation Glock pistols: adjustable backstraps, a new texture, and a dual recoil spring.

Shelton stated he was in a Glock Armorer School hosted by Dennis Tueller, and during that class the Gen 4 Glock was discussed.  Shelton said the new Glock pistols would have adjustable backstraps, which was leaked back in July of this year, but Glock has declined to publicly confirm.

Shelton said the new grip texture was not the RTF2 texture introduced by Glock at the 2009 SHOT Show.  Rather, Shelton stated the new grip was less aggressive than the RTF2, but more aggressive than the ‘standard’ third generation frame.

While both of the above new features I discussed previously, Shelton did describe something that my sources had not mentioned: a new recoil spring assembly.  Shelton said the new assembly had two recoil springs to better tame recoil.  While felt recoil is more of an individual perception, Shelton said Glock told them that with the new springs, the .40 S&W feels like a 9mm.  I am assuming the new spring assembly would be like the system used in the ‘baby’ Glock pistols such as the model 27.

If you don’t already listen, I encourage you to check out Shelton’s podcast.

Hornady Expands Critical Defense Line of Ammunition

By Richard on November 13, 2009 No Comments

Hornady announced three new loads in the Critical Defense line of ammunition:  .357 Magnum, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP.  Refer to the chart for specific loading information:

hornady_cd_011

Claiming to be the “pinnacle in self defense ammunition,” Hornady lists the following benefits of the Critical Defense line of ammunition:

  • Unaffected by thick and heavy clothing, including denim and leather.
  • FTX bullet delivers superior controlled expansion and large, deep wound cavities over a wide range of velocities.
  • Clean burning and stable propellants reduce recoil in lightweight handguns, and perform consistently in all temperatures.
  • Minimal muzzle flash protects night vision.
  • Feeds reliably in pistols.
  • Shiny silver nickel plating prevents corrosion, and is easily visible in low light situations.
  • Bullets are cannelured and crimped to avoid bullet setback.
  • Bullets are custom designed for individual loads.
  • The most effective, consistent, and reliable self-defense ammunition available today.

What Do They Teach in Journalism School Anyway?

By Richard on November 13, 2009 No Comments

So, I read today’s silly gun control “news” story.  This one comes from the Yakima Herald in Washington state.  Among the highlights:

  • “The image of [the BATFE] being jackbooted thugs doesn’t hold water”;
  • “the so-called “gun show loophole” that allows unlicensed firearm dealers to circumvent background checks”;
  • “a large percentage of guns that are smuggled into Mexico come from gun shows in Eastern Washington”;
  • “Washington state is the No. 4 source in the country for illegal guns in Mexico”;
  • “high-powered pistols like the FN Herstal”; and
  • the ubiquitous “semi-automatic assault rifles.”

The article is here:  Gun show loophole sees many weapons smuggled into Mexico.  Feel free to read the article and e-mail the author if you believe he has mistaken any facts.  Please be nice…
