New Guns at 2010 SHOT Show

By Richard on January 9, 2010 7 Comments

The 2010 SHOT Show will introduce shooters to a wide range of new firearms.  Let’s take a look at some of the possibilities.

The Gen 4 Glock is not a secret any more.  After I posted about it in June of 09, Glock finally admitted there was a new gun on the way in November.  In December we started seeing photos of them, and now a few lucky people actually own one.  We expect Glock will have the new Gen 4 pistols available for shooting at Media Day at the Range.  We’ll have photos and videos of the new pistols here.

Ruger announced three new handguns: a compact SR9 and two revolvers chambered in .327 Magnum.  However, the real news about Ruger is they are not done.  Expect at least two more guns from them at the SHOT Show.  Depending on who you listen to, one of those new guns is a 1911 clone.  I’m not certain they will introduce one, but Ruger could do very well will a $600 1911 with a strong feature set.  Other possibilities?  Ruger has definitely been pushing into the self defense and tactical markets with the SR556, LCP, LCR and SR9 series of firearms.  We may see some significant announcements in their sporting/hunting lines.

Smith & Wesson is expected to announce some new guns also.  The rumored M&P 380 was possibly leaked by Express Police Supply in a contest announcement last month.  After The Firearm Blog broke that story, the contest was changed and the 380 was pulled from the advertisement.  I expect S&W will show a 380 at SHOT.  I’m fairly ambivalent toward the idea.

Smith & Wesson already announced several changes to its line of J-frame revolvers, including several models with longer barrels (2 1/2″ vs. the standard 1 7/8″).  I expect we may see more offerings of revolvers without the cursed internal lock system.  The S&W internal locks are almost-universally hated, and I suspect S&W saw a nice run on the 442/642 they released in limited numbers last year without the locks.  Smith may decide to see if the lack of internal locks can transfer into greater sales for their other revolvers.

Charter Arms promised to show the new Rimless Revolver at the 2009 SHOT Show.  Announced in 2008, the Charter Arms Rimless Revolver (CARR) still hasn’t been shown to the public.  Charter made several claims about the delays including waiting on the patent lawyers, but I suspect the most recent claim was the most accurate: sales were so hot in 2009, they did not have the manufacturing capacity to add a new gun to the line-up.  Now that gun sales have cooled to a more normal position, I hope we will see the CARR at the 2010 SHOT Show.

“Get Ready for What’s New 2010″ states the Taurus web site.  Taurus seems to introduce about a dozen new guns every year.  I expect to see about a dozen more this year.  If I had to guess, I would say an expansion of their 1911 line might be coming, along with several other new handguns.

Rossi, Taurus’s sister company, might be more interesting with a lever gun chambered in .327 Federal Magnum.  Although I don’t know if they are working on one, that would be a fun little gun to shoot, with decent hunting potential.

Of course, these few things barely scratches the surface of what will be shown.  Remington, Colt, Wilson Combat, FN, Mossberg and many other manufacturers will be bringing new and updated products to market.  So, keep checking back with us for the latest information.  We’ll be at Media Day and all week at the SHOT Show, so you will get the latest news, photos and videos of all the new gear.

I’m on the market for a .22LR semi-auto market, anyone out there has heard of anything new coming out during SHOT Show?

I am the owner of http://www.apelgear.com, and I have been inundated with manufacturers getting the latest information of new equipment for Military, Law Enforcement and Hunting. This show should be one of the highlights of my business as I will get to direct the advertising of my combat boots, and protective gear to match the latest and greatest weaponry to hit the market.

It’s a good thing there’s some new stuff coming out in the Mil/LE Tactical section, because most of the gun introductions are a big fat “who cares” from me. All that really interests me, among the companies that have stated they’re introducing new stuff at SHOT before it gets seen at SHOT, is seeing if Ruger can keep their recall streak alive. I’m sure there will be some new stuff that’s worth noting, and I love going by the Perazzi booth and swinging $250,000 shotguns like I own ‘em, but with the post-Gun Buying Frenzy of ’08-’09 market cooling and an uncertain political landscape, interesting and worthy new introductions will be less than in years past. Probably dramatically less.

I’ve read some weird rumors on Ruger Forums stating that a poly framed Blackhawk with an laser site in the ejector housing was to be announced. Of course this might be smoke and mirrors.

Please, no more M1911′s or AR’s. The .327 has great potential as a hunting gun for small to medium game and varmints. A lever gun in this caliber would be most welcome.

I’m from Romania, but I know very good English, too. I like very much AK 47 and AT4 AST, the new AT4. I like the new Shotgun, AA-12, too. But, for me, M1911 and M327 are the greatest guns. My dad drives panzers because he is a “panzered”. My father workes in a host and I know a lot of thinghs from him
