Charter Arms Rimless Revolver: MIA

By Richard on January 21, 2010 5 Comments

charter_arms_rimlessDelayed yet again, the Charter Arms Rimless Revolver (CARR) is a “no show” for the 2010 SHOT Show.

Announced in 2008, multiple delays throughout 2009 kept the CARR out of production.  Now at the biggest firearms event in 2010, the rimless revolver is still nowhere to be seen.

According to floor staff, the CARR’s patents are still pending and the gun cannot be shown for fear of another designer taking their idea.  It would seem that some design problems may have caused the delay more than the lawyers, though, as one staffer admitted the announcement in ’08 “jumped the gun” and bugs had to be worked out throughout the past year.

Regardless, I really like the idea of a revolver that can shoot rimless cartridges without the need for moon clips.   I sincerely hope Charter Arms is able to bring this gun to market.  I suspect it would be a good seller for them.

The current timetable for the CARR is June for the .40 S&W revolver, followed by 9mm and .45 ACP.  All three revolvers are scheduled for delivery by year’s end. Retail will be “about $450.”

I still like the idea but I don’t see any reason to trust the timetable anymore on this one, seems the delays and changed release dates are the only things that moves forward.

Nope you are wrong. It was there. While gun was not on display just had to ask to see and play with it and out it came, i know because I did. Undergoing a couple of modifications to make semi-auto casings kick out easeir from the cylinder. Neat gun will buy one when they are out.

      Leroy,

Thanks for stopping by, but I stand by my report. If the Charter Arms people withheld information from me, that is not a fault of my reporting. I spoke to three members of the Charter Arms staff, and all of them told me the same thing.

If you are a distributor or retailer, they may be more willing to give you information than they will me, a member of the media. I assume you were not allowed to take photos? If you have any, send them to me, and I would be glad to post them for the benefit of the community.

      Thanks again for stopping by.

      Richard

The Charter CARR sounds like the Ruger XGI or the Kel-Tec RFB or the Boberg XR9 – the rainbow keeps receding the closer you get to it!

Have you heard anything more on the CARR? I would really like one of each flavor they make available.

    Thanks
