Sig Sauer P238 Tactical Laser
By
The P238 Tactical Laser was introduced by Sig Sauer at the 2010 SHOT Show. This .380 ACP pistol shares many of the same features as its single-action brethren including Siglite night sights, frame mounted safety and a 6+1 capacity. It differs, though, in looks and with the addition of a laser.
The Sig laser is mounted under the barrel, on the front of the trigger guard. The on/off switch is on the side of the laser housing, and seems easy to reach with either hand while holding the pistol.
The laser does not add any length to the gun, and very little additional weight. The floor model was not working, so I was not able to evaluate the switch or brightness of the laser.
The P238 Tactical Laser model has a natural stainless steel slide, anodize black frame and custom aluminum grips.

Just purchased one of these guns with the laser. Right out of the box, brand new, the laser would not turn on with a brand new battery installed. I now have to take this back to the dealer. I hope this is only a temporary problem because the laser fits perfectly on the gun, and is rock solid secure. Otherwisem, the gun appears to be exactly what I was looking for.

Turn your battery over, the instructions are wrong, the + side goes down. I was lucky, I saw this on a blog before I bought my laser. Should be fine.

If you want to find one you need to find a top level Sig gun shop. Mine got 5 in the first 2 weeks, and then 5 more. Good luck.

Something worth mentioning is the fact that a replacement 3.0 volt Energizer 2L76 lithium photo battery that came supplied with my Sig Sauer P238 Tactical Laser is very difficult to locate. However, the more commonly available 1.5 volt Energizer #357 silver oxide battery can be used if two are stacked together to equal the necessary 3.0 volts and in fact take up identical physical space in the Sig laser battery compartment. Hope that info helps those who have looked in vain for the 2L76 battery.

I hope you buyers and potential buyers will come home with a working model of the gun. Mine had extractor issues, FTRTB, FTF, FTE, you name it. Mine has been in the posession of Sig’s corporate repair shop since June 18. That is pretty sad for a $700 pistol that was purchased new on June 11.
I sure love the look of the gun, though. Maybe it will actually work when it is returned. Beware of one thing, though…. Sig’s customer service representatives are rude and unsympathetic. Google P238 extractor problems before purchasing. I wish I would have!

Anyone know of a good ankle holster for this gun?
