I have a friend who has physical impairments preventing her from carrying a ‘normal’ caliber for self defense. Though .22′s aren’t generally held to be great at self defense, they beat not having any gun.
One of the guns she has considered is the Smith & Wesson 351C, which is a J-frame, 7-shot .22 Magnum revolver. Out of a 6″ revolver, CCI claims their .22 WMR Maxi-Mag 40 grain hollowpoints are making 1400 fps. The 351C has a barrel less than 1/3 that size.
Anyone chronnied this round (or similar) out of a 1 7/8″ barrel? I can’t imagine more than 1000 fps, and maybe less than that. If anyone has good info on velocities of the .22 Mag out of a small barrel please post a comment or e-mail me. Thanks!
Other articles that will amaze you:
North American Arms has data for a 1 5/8″ barrel here: http://www.naaminis.com/naaveloc.html
Thanks Mike. I knew there had to be a resource out there for the info.

I chronied several different loads out of my 351PD here. You’re basically getting .22 LR rifle velocities out of a snubbie. The hole won’t be big, but it’ll be deep.
Jason,
Thanks for the link!
