Alliant Extra-Lite Shotshell Powder

By Richard on February 27, 2010 4 Comments

Alliant Powder is now selling a new shotshell powder designed for 12-gauge loaders: the Alliant Extra-Lite.  It is available in one and eight pound containers.

From Alliant:

Get more with less when reloading with Extra-Lite powder. Our new shotshell propellant provides less cost, less recoil and less headaches for those 12 gauge shooters transitioning from 1 1/8 ounce to 1 7/8 ounce loads. We understand that many shooters are looking for a powder that will have a density that allows use of standard components (wads and cases). These same shooters also want pressure levels that guarantee complete combustion across a broad temperature range while still being clean burning. Well…now they have it. It’s Extra-Lite from Alliant Powder®.

Features & Benefits

  • Powder density allows use of standard available components (wads and cases)
  • Pressure level assures complete combustion across temperature ranges
  • Be extremely clean burning
  • Made in the USA
  • Lot to Lot consistency

Extra lite on this web site says it’s for 1-1/8 to 1-7/8, in the sporting clays mag. it says 1oz to 7/8oz.

      Hi David –

The information on this site is taken directly from the Alliant press release. I just went back and double checked the information, and assuming the information Alliant published is accurate, my post is correct.

      Thanks for visiting,

It’s called extra lite, so I would assume it’s for lite loads, not heavy loads. I guess I’ll have to wait till I can find it at a dealer.

I just bought 8 pounds. The label on the jug says its for 12 gauge 7/8 to 1 ounce loads. If you go the the Alliant web site, the load data is for these light loads.
