Charter Arms to Deliver Rimless Revolvers in June

Charter Arms said they are still on track to deliver the new “rimless” revolver in late June 2010. The .40 S&W model first, followed by the 9mm and .45 ACP.

The CARR (Charter Arms Rimless Revolver) was announced almost two years ago, but has not yet been seen in public, other than the few publicity photos released by Charter Arms. At both the 2009 and 2010 SHOT Shows, Charter Arms reps advised patent issues were slowing down the delivery date.

A few key points about the CARR:

chambered for “rimless” rounds without the use of moon clips
five shots
double action
9mm version will also chamber .380 ACP
priced around $450

Lyman Introduces New Casting Furnace and Accessories

Lyman – a leader in bullet casting – has added 3 new items to their respected line of bullet casting gear. The new items include the new “Big Dipper” electric casting furnace, a casting kit featuring the new furnace and a new cast iron lead pot.

The new “Big Dipper” is an economical electric casting furnace which offers a more than 10 lb. capacity with wide mouth designed for easy ladling. The new furnace also features a top mounted thermostat with an easy “on-off” temperature dial that can control alloy temperatures to +/-10 degrees. The heavy duty aluminum construction offers a stable, compact non-tip design with fast a heat-up using standard household current.

Cross Breed Holsters – Cross Breed offers the very popular SuperTuck Deluxe fitted for the Walther PK380. The SuperTuck Deluxe is a leather-Kydex hybrid IWB holster that can be worn with a tucked-in shirt. Cross Breed also offers the QwikClip and SnapSlide holsters for the PK380.

Lyman Publishes New 4th Edition Cast Bullet Handbook

Lyman introduces the first new cast bullet data manual in 30 years. It contains data using the latest and most available components for bullet casters.

In addition to chronicling data for Lyman’s entire line of rifle and pistol moulds, the new 4th Edition Cast Bullet Handbook is the first with data for selected moulds from other manufacturers where those bullet designs or weights would be of interest to cast bullet experimenters. New calibers like the Ruger Compact Magnums, .327 Federal have also been added as have a number of black powder loads for the popular older cartridges.

Charter Arms Gets Colorful

Still no sign of the Rimless Revolver, but Charter Arms does have some more colorful variations of their old revolvers. Colors and patterns like tiger stripe, turquoise, and bronze.

They also have a “Cougar” color pattern, which is a mottled pink. As I am unfamiliar with any four-legged cats in this shade of pink, I can only assume that the Cougar is a reference to the pop-culture term for an older woman who sexually pursues younger men.

I know a lot of women dislike the pink gun concept, as they feel it is condescending to the female gender, offering nothing substantial to meet their needs. I can only imagine what they will say about this.

Kel Tec PMR-30 Scheduled for Second Quarter Delivery

ATK Acquires BLACKHAWK!

The latest acquisition news surrounds the purchase of BLACKHAWK! by global giant ATK. I’m a fan of BLACKHAWK! gear and of many of the ATK products (Federal ammunition, for example), yet I find myself somewhat apprehensive about this latest acquisition.

When a large conglomerate scoops up a great company like BLACKHAWK!, I wonder if the new corporate structure will squash the innovation and “out-of-the-box” thinking that the smaller company used to be successful. All too frequently we have seen this take place in tech acquisitions. I hope this will not be the case with BLACKHAWK!

As a side note, ATK also recently acquired tactical gear manufacturer Eagle Industries.

C.O. Arms All-Weather Pistol

C.O. Arms has released an all-new model to their line of 1911 pistols– the AWP, or All-Weather Pistol.

The C.O. Arms AWP is set apart by an all-black Carry-Tuff finish that protects the gun from all types of weather conditions, rust and scratches and is easily cleaned with just a wipe down. The AWP has a forged 7075 aluminum frame with checkered front strap and 4140 carbon steel slide. It has a 3 ½ in. forged stainless steel bushingless bull barrel with broach cut rifling.

Red Dawn 2010

Although not strictly a gun topic, worth mention is the new Red Dawn movie being released in November. A lot of people relate to the original Red Dawn, and are curious about the direction the remake will take. The question is “Will the remake be any good?”
