Supporting my theory that gun control groups are all about “control” not “guns,” Paul Helmke, leader of the infamous Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, showed his disdain for other parts of the U.S. Constitution this week. Helmke said:
“When the NRA’s agenda means saying even if you’re on the terror watch list, and the Justice Department feels that you’re a danger, you should be able to buy a gun, it’s an indication to me that they’ve gone too far.”
So according to Helmke, the Constitutionally-guaranteed right to due process doesn’t apply if some nameless bureaucrat drops you onto a “watch list” or otherwise “feels” you are a danger.
If I may point out, the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution states, in part, “…nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law…”
Its all about control folks. Guns are just one of the attack vectors.
Other articles that will amaze you:
Helmke and the gun-banners are all about “CONTROL”. Remember the 1994 “Assault Weapons Ban”? We had a bunch of these cooks convince a lot of well-meaning sheep in this country that mean-looking guns were scary and bad. Lies about fully-automatic weapons being handed out at every gun show and gun shop were rampant, as was the defining of awesome firearms as nothing more than “killers” by these idiots. Machine guns as they are classified have been very strictly regulated since the 1930′s and are not sold regularly to the public. So we banned on appearance and not function. Thank God that is over!
In this particular case the system worked. The gun dealer didn’t just hand a firearm over to this terror punk, but checked him through the instant check system and was given the O.K. to sell. So why wasn’t he banned if he was on a terror list?
Two possible reasons are these:
1. Someone at the FBI (who knew and were watching this punk) inadvertently failed to enter him into the gun-buy ban list. Yeah, its not magic, it takes a manual entry.
2. Perhaps the investigators decided that they didn’t want to risk hundreds if not thousands of investigation hours and leads by banning this guy and running the risk that if he was denied a gun purchase he’d get spooked and bail out. Anyone experienced in investigating international crime/terror groups knows that when you identify a foot soldier you sometimes have to grit your teeth and let some criminal or undesirable activity go on for the better good. Jump on the foot soldier too quick and you get nothing but the foot soldier, while the cell or group dissolves and regroups somewhere else – yeah they’re like cock roaches! Be patient and you might just link the entire group and cut if off at its head! The risks both ways are obvious. Ban him and you stop the legal firearm purchase and may destroy your case and watch Fox News later about the group’s terror activity around the world. Don’t ban him and he may buy a gun and do horrible things, but you also might keep him feeling safe enough that he trips up and contacts the big dogs allowing investigators to wrap up the whole group.
Considering the additional arrests in that New York case, I’m thinking the second possibility was probably the reason for the no-ban choice. But then again those FBI anti-terror guys don’t even talk to regular FBI guys so who knows.
Back to the “CONTROL” thing, consider the words of President Thomas Jefferson on government:
A government so large that it can provide for its citizens every need, is big enough to take everything away from those citizens.
Here are some thoughts on government from Thomas Jefferson:
“Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone. The people themselves are its only safe depositories.”
Thomas Jefferson
I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.
Thomas Jefferson
My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.
Thomas Jefferson
No freeman shall be debarred the use of arms.
Thomas Jefferson
One loves to possess arms, though they hope never to have occasion for them.
Thomas Jefferson
The constitutions of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people; that… it is their right and duty to be at all times armed.
Thomas Jefferson
The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time.
