Ballistic Reload: Woot! for Guns

By Richard on June 30, 2010 No Comments

I just discovered BallisticReload.com.  It is basically Woot! for guns.  Never heard of Woot!?  Ok, let me explain.

Woot! sells one item at really cheap prices.  The item sells for only 24 hours, or until it sells out.  Each new day brings a new item, with no guarantee on what the item will be or how many will be in stock.  BallisticReload.com has taken the concept to the gun world.

McDonald v. Chicago: A Unique Perspective?

By Richard on June 29, 2010 3 Comments

istock_000001591710xsmallThe McDonald v. Chicago decision was released on Monday.  I purposely avoided the news and other blogs so I could read the entire opinion with a fresh and open mind.  And, that is how I have written this look at McDonald.

I’m sure most of the other gun blogs have gotten basics of the story right:  McDonald incorporates the Second Amendment and Heller to the states via the due process clause, the gun bans in Chicago and Oak Park are illegal, and the decision was a 5-4 split.  But there are some other interesting aspects of this case that I will explore, and I hope this will provide a different perspective.

BLACKHAWK! Founder Mike Noell Retires

By Richard on June 28, 2010 No Comments

blackhawk-logoFrom ATK:

BLACKHAWK! founder and former President Mike Noell has decided to retire. His leadership during the acquisition helped ensure that the company has gotten off to a solid start under ATK ownership.

As most tactical market enthusiasts know, Mike started BLACKHAWK! from the ground up with nothing but a vision to support our country’s troops in battle. He has grown the business into one of the most respected tactical brands on the market. His initiative and entrepreneurial spirit are admirable and his story will continue to be a compelling piece of the brand promise for BLACKHAWK!.

ISSC M-22 Pistol Review

By Richard on June 25, 2010 5 Comments

issc_m22Carteach0 has another very good review on his website, this time of the ISSC M-22 pistol.  The ISSC M-22 pistol is a .22 LR handgun that looks a lot like a Glock pistol.  Though there are some significant differences between the Glock line of handguns and the M-22, Art points out the pistol can make for a good, inexpensive trainer.

Carteach0 is an excellent site that you should probably visit regularly anyway, but definitely check out this review.

New Bullets from Missouri Bullet Company

By Richard on June 24, 2010 1 Comments

missouri_bullet_coThe Missouri Bullet Company announced they have several new bullets for sale.  Each of the bullets is tailored for a specific application.

One of the new bullets on the list that jumps out at me is the 145 grain RN for the .38 S&W.  This is not for the .38 Special; the S&W and Special have different diameters.  Bullet choices for reloading the .38 S&W are fairly narrow, so this adds some variety to the mix.

Missouri Bullet Company also added a 105 grain .38 Special bullet for very mild loads.  I need to pull out my data books for the exact numbers, but I think you can load this bullet to about 800-850 fps for some very easy shooting rounds.  That would make a great load for working with new shooters.

I’ve bought bullets from Missouri Bullet Company before, and I have always been impressed by them.  They offer a good quality bullet at a very competitive price, and the customer service is second to none.  The last time I ordered from them, my order shipped the same day and was on my door step within the week.  They aren’t a sponsor; they’re just good people.

More information on the new bullets below.

Supreme Court’s McDonald Opinion Due Soon

By Richard on June 22, 2010 No Comments

The US Supreme Court is moving toward recess, and is likely to release the McDonald opinion just ahead of that recess.  Based on what I’m hearing, I expect a decision Thursday, though we may see it the following Monday.  Regardless of when it comes, it is a big one.  Let’s hope they did the right thing.
