Bersa BP Pistol

Bersa BPShipping to dealers in the coming days is the new Bersa BP pistol.  Designed for concealed carry, the new Bersa is a single-stack, 9mm handgun than is only 0.94″ wide.  Capacity on the BP pistol is 8+1 rounds.

The Bersa BP is also known as the BP CC.  It is a striker-fired, polymer framed pistol.  Bersa describes the action as “short reset DAO.”

The BP is equipped with “real” sights unlike many of the concealed carry guns being rolled out with bumps and depressions that are next to useless.  The sights are a three-dot configuration.  The sights are also replaceable if you want to install night sights or something like the XS Sights.

The Bersa BP is may be just what a lot of people are looking for: a moderately-sized single stack 9mm for concealed carry.  There are a lot of options for concealed carry out there, but single stack, compact 9mm’s of a medium to compact size (not sub-compacts) seem to be a tough find.

I have carried a Glock 19 for years, and should Glock ever decide to make the same gun as a single-stack so they can shave a 1/4″ or more from the width, I’d be the first in line to buy one.

The Bersa BP is slightly shorter in length and height than the Glock 19, and comes in at 0.2″ thinner.  It isn’t quite as thin as a Kahr CW9, but I bet it still feels pretty good in the hand (and in the IWB holster).

I am eager to check out the short reset DAO that is standard in these guns.  Triggers are pretty darn important to me, and some of the current polymer pistols leave a lot to be desired.  With a good trigger (and assuming solid reliability), the Bersa BP could win a place in my safe.

The Bersa BP 9mm pistol should start shipping to US dealers shortly according to Rafael DelValle, the national sales manager for Eagle Imports.  Eagle Imports is the exclusive US importer of Bersa handguns.  I hope to lay hands on one in the near future and run some serious ammo through it.  Stay tuned!

Update:  I have a Bersa BP9CC review here.

Comments

  1. I’ve been eyeing Bersa for some time as they seem to be making decent pistols at a very affordable price. This one looks to add to that trend, although I see a lot of S&W SD series in the design.

One question – is there any type of safety on this gun?

Being a big Glock fan I’m fine with the trigger safety (also knowing there are other safeties on the inside). Other polymer pistols have exterior safety levers. But I don’t see anything on this one.
