Suppressed Diamondback DB9, DB380

A few months back, Guns.com reported that Diamondback Firearms had teamed up with Thompson Machine to make a suppressed DB380.  Now it seems they are doing the same for the DB9 9mm pistol. (Check out my article: Diamondback DB9 Gen 4 Review.)

American Rifleman is reporting that Diamondback is producing suppressed versions of the DB9 pistol now.  There is no mention of this on the Diamondback site, but American Rifleman writers saw the pistol at the National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers show held earlier this month.

While I like the the DB9, I think the suppressor news is bigger than the gun or the company.  There are a lot of new suppressors and suppressor-ready guns that have been coming to market recently.  It used to be a big deal if a company released a pistol with a threaded barrel.  Now even small companies like Diamondback are getting in on the game.

Companies are in the business to make money, so I would not expect to see so many suppressed and/or suppressor-ready guns coming to market unless there was consumer demand for them.  I hope that is what is driving this industry trend.

Suppressors are safety devices, not the tools of assassins.  The Hollywood lie surrounding them has hurt gun owners, and I hope that people are waking up to the reality that suppressors are good things.

We’ll be at the 2012 SHOT Show, and I expect we will see these guns and cans from Diamondback and Thompson Machine there.
