Earlier this year, the AF2011-A1 double barrel 1911 pistol hit the internet and made quite a splash. Double barrel pistols are fairly rare, and lets face it, to many devotees, the 1911 platform is sacrosanct. Well, I found a far more exciting gun that was patented in 1990.
Ion Mihaita received a patent for his double barrel machine gun, which was a select fire pistol with the barrels stacked vertically.
The gun had a forward pistol grip, which was the magazine well for the lower barrel. The “normal” pistol grip included the trigger assembly and a second magazine well. This magazine fed the upper barrel. The trigger assembly fired both barrels in a sequential order.
I don’t know if this gun was ever actually manufactured anywhere. There are a few concerns I have with this design, but I’ve got to say it looks pretty darn cool.
