New Magpul All-Steel MBUS

Magpul Industries Corporation has been in the news lately with its bold stand for gun owners and gun rights.  When the Colorado elected officials voted to limit law-abiding citizens’ use of high capacity magazines, Magpul immediately put out a press release stating that they would be moving their business out of state.

Now in the midst of their big move, Magpul has announced the release of new furniture for AR-15 style rifles and the venerable 1911 pistols.

MBUS Gen II

Magpul has already produced a very popular AR-15 flip-down sights in the original and Gen II MBUS (Magpul Back-Up Sight).  Made with the same high-quality polymer construction as their extremely popular PMags, Magpul’s original MBUS sights have found great popularity and high reviews for durability and function.  The original MBUS was lightweight, yet sturdy, and used a nice spring-activated mechanism to flip the sight into shooting position.  The user could then simultaneously press two levers on opposite sides of the sight to fold the MBUS back into a low profile position.

The original MBUS allowed shooters to use red dot or scoped optics as their primary sighting source while having the benefit of “iron” sights in just a few seconds.  In many cases, the MBUS sight can be co-zeroed with the main red dot sight or scope.  Many shooters have found folding or flip-down “iron” sights a must in their AR-15 furniture selection for these reasons.

MBUS PRO FOLDING SIGHTS

Now Magpul has decided to enter the steel arena and provide the same high-quality products to those shooters who are committed to metal over polymer.  The MBUS PRO sights are all-steel sights that have many of the same features as the original polymer MBUS sights.  Being made from steel should relieve some shooters’ concerns about damage from incidental contact during hard training or action, but the all-steel construction does come with an increased price (though similar to other steel AR-15 sights).

The steel on the MBUS PRO comes with a melonite finish for added protection.  The positive detents assure that the sight remains at standard AR-15 sight height when in the opened position.  When closed, or flat, the MBUS PRO is only about 1/3” above the Picatinny rail ensuring that the shooter has plenty of sight radius for primary optics and does not need to worry about the sights being snagged on objects during shooting or movement.  The front sight is designed to be compatible with rail-height gas blocks.
