The Gun Digest Book of Ruger Revolvers

ruger bookI’ve just pre-ordered a new history book for my gun bookshelf:  The Gun Digest Book of Ruger Revolvers.

I saw a press release on this book earlier in the week, and just took a look at it on Amazon.  Amazon has a great feature that allows you to review parts of the book prior to purchase to see what the writing and photography is like.  After being disappointed with the Standard Catalog of Remington Firearms (read my review here), I was wary about investing in another “authoritative” text on guns.  But, this new Ruger book looks to be very good.

There appear to be a good number of full color photos to illustrate the different model revolvers that Ruger has made.  The photos do not appear to be just stock art from the company.  Instead, the pictures appear to be well shot new photos with a sprinkling of historical photos.

The text appears to have good detail on the guns and variants.  I don’t know if the book will be as good as the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson (my review of it is here), but it certainly looks like it will be an excellent addition to my reference library.

If you have an interest in Ruger revolvers, you might want to take a look at it here.

Richard Johnson is a gun writer, amateur historian and - most importantly - a dad. He's done a lot of silly things in his life, but quitting police work to follow his passion of writing about guns was one of the smartest things he ever did. He founded this site and continues to manage its operation.

I liked the author’s other book, “Big-Bore Revolvers.” You have to appreciate a guy who is crazy enough to order a revolver in .50 Alaskan, and then humble enough to show off the crease in his scalp created by its front sight.
