Lancer L30 Rifle

Lancer L30

Lancer Advanced Weapons and Components introduced their L30 Series Rifle at the SHOT Show Media Day at the Range.  The L30 is designed to be a larger caliber, precision semi-auto rifle.  The L30 will accept the new L7 Advanced Warfighter Magazines, but will accept other SR25/DPMS style magazines as well.

The foundation of the Lancer L30 is the patented lower receiver design that incorporates an oversized magazine release button, ambidextrous bolt release lever, and a removable magwell extension.  It is the later that really displays the ingenuity of the Lancer engineers, and is a patented advancement to the AR design.  The magwell extensions are precision machined from billet aluminum, with features that will match the lower receiver.  The extensions are made to tolerances that eliminate the potential for rattling when the rifle is fired.

The magazine well extension attaches to the lower receiver using a captured rail.  The extension locks into place using the standard front takedown pin.  This design is very beneficial because it allows the shooter to remove the magwell extension without using any specialized tools.  The L30 ships without the magwell extension attached, or in a standard configuration, but simple instructions are provided for the shooter that desires to upgrade with this accessory.

In addition, the DMM-R/L version has a relief cut away on either the right or left side (shooter preference) that is designed to facilitate loading magazines while the shooter is in the prone position.  I could also see this as being beneficial to shooters who need to reload quickly and confidently whether for competition or duty.

The upper receiver has the Lancer free-floating, carbon-fiber handguard.  In addition, the sight rail on top of the receiver extends beyond the receiver to provide a rigid platform for a variety of optics.  The sight rail comes in a multiple lengths, and has an optional 20MOA taper.

A pet peeve of mine, on a rifle that nice why doesn’t the grip fit? I mean that isn’t a bottom of the clearance barrel AR, that should be the pride of joy of a company, is it too much to ask that the basic lines of everything match up with good fit and finish? Ya I know, it effects nothing, just a pet peeve of mine. Even if the answer is “because everyone changes the grip anyways” a gun should leave the factory with everything fitting together correctly. I guess I’ll just hope that was a picture with the grip installed incorrectly…..
