New .45-70 Gov’t Loads from Winchester

By Aaron on November 22, 2009 No Comments

winchester_dual_bondTwo new loads for the .45-70 Gov’t will be offered by Winchester Ammunition in 2010.

Available in May 2010, Winchester will be offering a 300 grain Ballistic Silvertip load for the .45-70.  Winchester says the bullet will have a plastic tip, and the bullet will be coated in black oxide to reduce barrel fouling.

The second new load, a 375 grain Supreme Elite Dual Bond, will be available in June 2010.  The .45-70 Gov’t loading will have similar deep penetrating characteristics that the other loads in this line have.

Winchester Announces New Ammo for Taurus Judge Revolvers

By Aaron on November 22, 2009 No Comments

winchester_pdx1_410Winchester Ammunition announced two new loads for the Taurus Judge revolvers: one a .45 Colt load and the other a .410 shot shell load.

Both new loadings are marketed under the Winchester Supreme Elite PDX1 line.  The .45 Colt cartridge has a 225 grain bonded jacket hollow point that was specifically designed for the Judge.

The new .410 shell has three plated “Defense Disc” projectiles and 12 plated BB’s.  The shot shells are reduced recoil loads.  Like the .45 Colt above, these .410 shells were designed for the Taurus Judge.

Winchester Ammunition stated both new loads should be available in February of 2010.

The Taurus Judge line of revolvers have been a smash hit for the company, and ammunition companies have been working on loads to meet consumer demands for these revolvers.  Federal introduced .410 ammo for the Judge at the 2009 SHOT Show.

Hornady Lock-N-Load Sonic Cleaner

By Aaron on November 16, 2009 3 Comments

hornady_cleanerHornady is bringing to market a new solution to case cleaning: the Sonic Cleaner.  Part of the Lock-N-Load series of reloading equipment, Hornady is claiming to bring “case cleaning to the next level.”

At about $135, the Sonic Cleaner is more expensive than a standard tumbler.  However, it is potentially superior to standard tumbling.

From Hornady:

Hornady® Manufacturing has taken cartridge case cleaning to the next level with the new Lock-N-LoadTM Sonic Cleaner.TM A combination of intense ultrasonic cleaning action and a unique cleaning solution, One Shot® Sonic CleanTM, provide an extremely effective and efficient method to remove carbon residue and other foreign materials from the entire case.

Unlike tumblers, this sonic cleaner quickly cleans the inside of the case as well as primer pockets. The ultrasonic action creates microjets that blast carbon buildup off cases, small gun parts and equipment.

The Lock-N-LoadTM Sonic CleanerTM can hold up to two hundred 223 Rem cases or one hundred 308 Win cases. No other cleaning tool on the market even comes close.

National Ammo Day

By Aaron on November 15, 2009 No Comments

For what it is worth, November 19 is National Ammo Day.  On that day organizers want every gun owner to purchase 100 rounds of ammunition as a show of support for ammo manufacturers.

From the National Ammo Day website:

The goals of Ammo Day

The goal of National Ammo Day is to empty the ammunition from the shelves of your local gun store, sporting goods, or hardware store and put that ammunition in the hands of law-abiding citizens.  Make your support of the Second Amendment known–by voting with your dollars!

There are an estimated 75 MILLION gun owners in the United States of America.  If each gun owner or Second Amendment supporter buys 100 rounds of ammunition, that’s 7.5 BILLION rounds in the hands of law-abiding citizens!

The gun/ammunition manufacturers have been taking the brunt of all the frivolous lawsuits, trying to put these folks out of business.  Well, not if we can help it!  And we CAN help it by buying ammunition on November 19!
