SIG P938 Photo

By Richard on January 17, 2012 3 Comments

The up-and-coming SIG P938 is on display at the 2012 SHOT Show.  I caught a quick photo today while moving between appointments.  I’ll stop back by SIG in the next few days and grab some more pictures.

SIG P224

I suspect the SIG P224 will be a very popular pistol this year.  There certainly seemed to be a lot of interest in it at the SHOT Show today.

Kel-Tec SU-16 in 300 BLK

By Richard on January 17, 2012 No Comments

Kel-Tec announced a SU-16 rifle chambered in the increasingly popular .300 BLK cartridge.  There will be two versions:  standard and “California-compliant.”

The rifles will have 16″ chrome-lined barrels.  The barrels will be threaded for the addition of a suppressor.  The new rifles will accept standard AR-15/M-4 type magazines.

Unlike some of the other SU-16 variants, these will not have the integral bi-pod.  Instead, these SU-16 rifles have a Picatinny rail for mounting accessories.  According to Kel-Tec, the SU-16 A and B models will not be offered in .300 BLK due to the front sights on those models not being compatible with a larger barrel diameter.

MSRP will be about $820 – $850, reflecting a $50-80 premium when compared to the 5.56 chambered SH-16 rifles.

SIG P224

By Richard on January 17, 2012 No Comments

The SIG P224 is out and on display at the 2012 SHOT Show.  Details on the pistol were leaked late last year, and magazine advertisements for the P224 started showing up earlier this month.  Now SIG is giving us all of the details on the new handgun.

The P224 is a subcompact pistol based on the SIG P229.  The gun will be chambered in 9mm, .40 S&W and .357 SIG.  The pistol uses double stack magazines, so capacity runs 11 rounds on the 9mm and 10 each for the .40 and .357.

Initially, the pistol will be available only with the DAK (Double Action – Kellerman) trigger.  This is the reason why the photos seen in this article do not show a de-cocker.  However, the more traditional double-action/single-action (DA/SA) triggers will be available later in this year.  The DA/SA guns will be available with the short reset trigger.

Mossberg Tactical Lever Gun

By Richard on January 17, 2012 13 Comments

Introduced at the 2012 SHOT Show, the Mosberg 464 SPX is a tactical, lever action rifle chambered in .30-30.  This lever gun is black (of course) and comes standard with a tri-rail and AR-style, adjustable buttstock.  Yes, it can be had with a flash hider.

Mossberg is also introducing a .22 LR version of the 464 tactical lever gun.  This model can be purchased with a muzzle break to help tame the wild recoiling rimfire.

Mossberg 464 SPX

Michael Bane mentioned the tactical .30-30 on his podcast a week or two ago.  I thought it could be very cool or a train wreck.  I’ll let you decide for yourself.  MSRP starts at $497 and goes up from there.

I’m a big fan of the lever action rifle as a home defense gun.  The .30-30 cartridge is more than adequate to stop a determined home invader.  Plus, in the aftermath, it is much harder for an attorney representing the “poor victim” to show you were a bloodthirsty killer by pointing to a walnut stocked lever action your daddy gave you.  I just don’t know if the 464 SPX is quite what I am thinking for self defense.

SIG P938

By Richard on January 16, 2012 5 Comments

The SIG P938 pistol has generated a lot of interest from shooters ever since word of it leaked in late 2011.  The P938 is a single-action-only handgun chambered in 9mm.

I can understand why this pistol would generate a lot of interest.  Essentially, the P938 is a 9mm version of the very popular SIG p238 handgun.  Talking with one of the SIG reps, he said that the pistol has the same look and feel of the P238, and it doesn’t feel much larger than the .380 ACP gun.  It is possible that many of the same holsters that fit the P238 will also work for the P938.

SIG P938

The SIG P938 will come in a variety of packages that have become standard across the classic SIG line including Equinox, Rosewood and Extreme.  Night sights are standard, with one option utilizing a TRUGLO tritium-fiber optic front sight.

Smith & Wesson has brought back the 586 revolver for 2012. The S&W 586 is a carbon steel, blued revolver in .357 Magnum.

The 586 can be had with either a 4″ or 6″ barrel. The revolver has a square butt.

It is not clear if the 586 will have the dreaded internal lock. We will see the gun at the 2012 Shot Show and let you know.

By Richard on January 16, 2012 1 Comments

The 2012 SHOT Show is here.  Today we start off with abut eight hours on the range.  The cell coverage may be spotty (thanks AT&T!), but we will upload photos and video as we can.  Once we get back to the hotel tonight, expect to get a lot more.

Gotta go catch the shuttle!
