McDonald v. Chicago: A Unique Perspective?
Posted by: | Comments
The McDonald v. Chicago decision was released on Monday. I purposely avoided the news and other blogs so I could read the entire opinion with a fresh and open mind. And, that is how I have written this look at McDonald.
I’m sure most of the other gun blogs have gotten basics of the story right: McDonald incorporates the Second Amendment and Heller to the states via the due process clause, the gun bans in Chicago and Oak Park are illegal, and the decision was a 5-4 split. But there are some other interesting aspects of this case that I will explore, and I hope this will provide a different perspective.
BLACKHAWK! Founder Mike Noell Retires

From ATK:
BLACKHAWK! founder and former President Mike Noell has decided to retire. His leadership during the acquisition helped ensure that the company has gotten off to a solid start under ATK ownership.
As most tactical market enthusiasts know, Mike started BLACKHAWK! from the ground up with nothing but a vision to support our country’s troops in battle. He has grown the business into one of the most respected tactical brands on the market. His initiative and entrepreneurial spirit are admirable and his story will continue to be a compelling piece of the brand promise for BLACKHAWK!.
McDonald v. Chicago: VICTORY!

ISSC M-22 Pistol Review
Posted by: | Comments
Carteach0 has another very good review on his website, this time of the ISSC M-22 pistol. The ISSC M-22 pistol is a .22 LR handgun that looks a lot like a Glock pistol. Though there are some significant differences between the Glock line of handguns and the M-22, Art points out the pistol can make for a good, inexpensive trainer.
Carteach0 is an excellent site that you should probably visit regularly anyway, but definitely check out this review.

Midwest Industries is now selling a tri-rail mount for the M2/M3 heavy machine guns. The rail allows the mounting of lasers and optics on the M2 without interfering with the use of the iron sights or field stripping.Looks Like Monday

New Bullets from Missouri Bullet Company
Posted by: | Comments
The Missouri Bullet Company announced they have several new bullets for sale. Each of the bullets is tailored for a specific application.
One of the new bullets on the list that jumps out at me is the 145 grain RN for the .38 S&W. This is not for the .38 Special; the S&W and Special have different diameters. Bullet choices for reloading the .38 S&W are fairly narrow, so this adds some variety to the mix.
Missouri Bullet Company also added a 105 grain .38 Special bullet for very mild loads. I need to pull out my data books for the exact numbers, but I think you can load this bullet to about 800-850 fps for some very easy shooting rounds. That would make a great load for working with new shooters.
I’ve bought bullets from Missouri Bullet Company before, and I have always been impressed by them. They offer a good quality bullet at a very competitive price, and the customer service is second to none. The last time I ordered from them, my order shipped the same day and was on my door step within the week. They aren’t a sponsor; they’re just good people.
More information on the new bullets below.
Supreme Court’s McDonald Opinion Due Soon
Posted by: | CommentsThe US Supreme Court is moving toward recess, and is likely to release the McDonald opinion just ahead of that recess. Based on what I’m hearing, I expect a decision Thursday, though we may see it the following Monday. Regardless of when it comes, it is a big one. Let’s hope they did the right thing.
BLACKHAWK! Tactical Knoxx Stock Review
Posted by: | Comments
Art Welling, aka Carteach0, posted a really good review of the BLACKHAWK! Knoxx tactical folding stock at his site.
I had a chance to shoot several of the Knoxx stocks at the Norfolk PD range when visiting BLACKHAWK! in May. I shot 12 gauge and .300 Win Mag with the Knoxx stocks, and I was extremely impressed by them.
The folding stock I played with in the classroom, but did not get a chance to shoot it. Check out Art’s review and video for more information.
Time for an oil change…
Posted by: | CommentsDuring the next day or so, I will be working on some ‘under-the-hood’ maintenance issues with the site.
I was planning on doing some efficiency-type stuff, but then I ran into a troubling discovery: one of my prior reviews has gone missing. A few months ago it was there, and now it is not. Hmmm…
I’ve been encountering a few errors with my theme, but I didn’t think there was any data loss. Now, I’m concerned that there may be database issues.
So, if you need me, I’ll be in my oil-stained coveralls with my socket set under the hood of the site pretending I know what that knocking sound is.
Gripwell Review for AR-15
Posted by: | Comments
The Gripwell is a bolt-on accessory for the AR-15/M-16/M-4 platform that significantly improves the use of the magazine well as a grip, and acts as a funnel for magazines in stress-reloads.
I found the Gripwell to be a useful addition to my Rock River AR-15, and could not find any faults with its performance. More on all that in a moment.
Gunslick Snap-n-Pull Shotgun Cleaning Kit Review
Posted by: | Comments
The Gunslick Snap-n-Pull barrel cleaning kit is a compact cleaning kit that combines the benefits of a Hoppe’s BoreSnake with the interchangeable parts of a traditional rod-style cleaning kit.
The Snap-n-Pull system does away with the ‘old-school’ cleaning rods, and uses a flexible cable instead, allowing you to clean from the chamber through the barrel, and out of the muzzle. Additionally, the cable rolls up nicely, meaning the kit can be stored in a small, soft-sided case.
Another benefit to the Snap-n-Pull system is different brushes and mops can be attached to the same cable. So instead of having a dozen BoreSnakes, you can have one Gunslick cable that attaches to your different Snap-n-Pull brushes and mops to handle all of your rifle and shotgun calibers.
