Gunslick Snap-n-Pull Shotgun Cleaning Kit Review

By Richard on June 17, 2010 No Comments

gunslick_shotgun_01aThe Gunslick Snap-n-Pull barrel cleaning kit is a compact cleaning kit that combines the benefits of a Hoppe’s BoreSnake with the interchangeable parts of a traditional rod-style cleaning kit.

The Snap-n-Pull  system does away with the ‘old-school’ cleaning rods, and uses a flexible cable instead, allowing you to clean from the chamber through the barrel, and out of the muzzle.  Additionally, the cable rolls up nicely, meaning the kit can be stored in a small, soft-sided case.

Another benefit to the Snap-n-Pull system is different brushes and mops can be attached to the same cable.  So instead of having a dozen BoreSnakes, you can have one Gunslick cable that attaches to your different Snap-n-Pull brushes and mops to handle all of your rifle and shotgun calibers.

ASAP Sidekick Bug Out Bag Review

By Richard on June 15, 2010 2 Comments

asap_04aSocial unrest, terrorist attacks, and natural disasters are constantly in the news.  People have seen that the normal systems of support break down in these events, and simple things like food and water may not be readily obtainable.  Preparing for possible problems only makes sense.  But how do you prepare?  And, for what?

Enter the ASAP survival packs.

Mossberg decided to offer a starting place for preparation by building a line of ready-to-go bug out bags (BOB).  The concept of a BOB is simple: a lightweight pack holding enough supplies to sustain you through a short term emergency as you evacuate to a safe location.  Think of it as the “ready to go” thing you grab when a firefighter knocks on your door and tells you to immediately evacuate due to a nearby chemical fire.  You don’t have time to go gather things; you have to go right now.

Don’t Kill Yourself

By Richard on June 13, 2010 1 Comments

I feel the need to review the rules of gun safety with my readers.  Not that I think any of you don’t know them.  Actually, I think most of you could recite them in your sleep.

I’m more concerned about people who get so comfortable with guns, they no longer respect what they can do.  The moment you don’t respect the lethality of a firearm, and fail to follow the rules, you will most assuredly find yourself in a bad way.

Some of you know that I am a full-time cop with an urban agency in Florida.  Well, the first call out of the gate yesterday was for a real “gun guy” who failed to follow the rules.  The good news is he lived.  The bad news is he may not be able to use his left hand…or what’s left of it…after this little gun handling faux pau.  A .357 Magnum will do that, you know.

Let me try to explain the damage that one casual disregard of the rules made.  I don’t have photos for you, so I can only hope my words are enough to impress upon you to pay attention!

The New Review of the DeSantis Nemesis

By Richard on June 12, 2010 4 Comments

desantis_nemesis_new_01aThe DeSantis Nemesis is a synthetic pocket holster designed for a wide number of concealed carry firearms.  I’ll save you from the suspense: the Nemesis is an excellent holster that is also inexpensive, making it a great value.

I previously reviewed the Nemesis in August of 2009, but did not realize at the time that the Nemesis had undergone a few design changes to fix the problems I identified in that review.  I had the original-style Nemesis, but DeSantis released a new version of the holster a few months before I wrote my review.

In May, Gene DeSantis sent me a note letting me know the company updated the Nemesis.  He was kind enough to send me a current sample of the Nemesis for review, and I am happy to say that the holster meets all of my expectations.

Ruger SR40 Coming Soon?

By Richard on May 27, 2010 1 Comments

Is Ruger set to announce the SR40 pistol?  Maybe.

During the past several years, Ruger has become one of the more popular firearms manufacturers by introducing products consumers want and shipping them on time.  In fact, Ruger has a solid policy of only announcing a product they are ready to ship.  Keeping with that policy, Ruger would only announce a new .40-caliber pistol when they were ready to get them into the dealers’ showrooms.

Ever since the introduction of the SR9 almost two years ago, people have asked about a .40 S&W version.  The Internet hopeful have even named the pistol the “SR40″.
