DeSantis Mad Max Holster

By Richard on January 7, 2012 1 Comments

DeSantis Mad MaxSharing the name with one of the better movies of the 70′s, the Mad Max holster was introduced by DeSantis.  While the movie showed a society in decay, the DeSantis holster can help prevent the loss of society to the criminal gangs (or am I reaching?)

Regardless, the Mad Max is a tuckable, inside-the-waistband holster that comes with both leather loops and plastic J-hooks to anchor it to the belt.

DeSantis states that the Mad Max is an “updated version of a holster originally made popular by one of the custom makers.”  I don’t know if this means they licensed the design or bought out another maker.  Feel free to educate me in the comments section if you know.

  • Uncle Mike’s Super Belt Slide size 16
  • Galco Underwraps Belly Band

DeSantis Hot-Jox

By Richard on January 3, 2012 2 Comments

DeSantis Hot-Jox HolsterDeSantis announced the re-introduction of the Hot-Jox concealment holster.  The non-traditional holster is a pouch that holds a pistol and magazine below the beltline of your pants.  The same concept is employed by the Smart Carry and Thunderwear.

The Hot-Jox has been around for a number of years, so I’m not clear on what improvements (if any) have been made to the system.

MSRP on the Hot-Jox is $49.99.

Beretta Nano Holster

PJ Holster Beretta Nano

An PJ Holster kydex scabbard for the Beretta Nano.

“Where can I find a Beretta Nano holster?” is one of the more popular questions I have gotten via e-mail in the past few weeks.  The Beretta Nano is a subcompact pistol introduced recently and it is now shipping.  Perfect for concealed carry, the Nano owner needs a quality holster.

Fortunately, several holster makers are already stepping up to provide leather and polymer solutions to your CCW needs.  I have assembled a small list of Nano holsters that I know exist currently.  If you are aware of others, please sound off in the comments section.

High Noon Holsters – High Noon Holsters is offering many of their leather designs fitted for the Beretta Nano.  Holster models for the Nano include Bare Asset, Mr. Softy, Back Skin, Swift Skin, Skin Deep, Bare Skin, Skin Guard, Centerfold and Split Decision.  These holsters cover a wide range of styles including several inside-the-waistband (IWB) rigs and numerous outside-the-waistband (OWB) scabbards.

Gould & Goodrich Taurus Judge Holster

By Richard on November 15, 2011 No Comments

Taurus Judge HolsterGould & Goodrich announced a new model 874 Taurus Judge holster for 2012.  The leather holster is called a sporting holster, suggesting it is designed for hunting or other outdoors activities.  The leather is dyed chestnut brown, which I happen to prefer for these kinds of holsters.

The holster can be worn as a straight up draw on the strong side and as a canted forward cross draw holster.  I imagine the ability to wear the holster in either of these positions will appeal to a lot of people.

Gould & Goodrich is making the new model 874 holster in two sizes.  Size 1 is for the 2.5″ chambered Taurus Judge with a 2.5″ or 3″ barrel.  Size 2 is made for the 3″ chambered Taurus Judge with a 3″ barrel.  Both holsters fit belts up to 1 3/4″ wide.

The New Review of the DeSantis Nemesis

By Richard on June 12, 2010 4 Comments

desantis_nemesis_new_01aThe DeSantis Nemesis is a synthetic pocket holster designed for a wide number of concealed carry firearms.  I’ll save you from the suspense: the Nemesis is an excellent holster that is also inexpensive, making it a great value.

I previously reviewed the Nemesis in August of 2009, but did not realize at the time that the Nemesis had undergone a few design changes to fix the problems I identified in that review.  I had the original-style Nemesis, but DeSantis released a new version of the holster a few months before I wrote my review.

In May, Gene DeSantis sent me a note letting me know the company updated the Nemesis.  He was kind enough to send me a current sample of the Nemesis for review, and I am happy to say that the holster meets all of my expectations.

High Noon Holsters for the Sig Sauer P250

By Richard on June 4, 2010 2 Comments

High_Noon_Speedy_Spanky.jpg

High Noon Holsters announced they added the Sig Sauer P250 4.7″ barrel, full-size gun to their entire line.  High Noon Holsters is a Tarpon Springs, FL based leather holster maker that makes a wide variety of leather scabbards, including belt slides, shoulder holsters, and inside-the-waistband holsters.

The Sig P250 is a ‘modular’ gun that can change barrel and frame sizes while keeping the same serial numbered receiver.  This allows the user to own one gun that can be modified to fit all of their needs.  However, some P250 owners have complained that holster choices have been limited.  Hopefully, High Noon’s addition of the P250 to their entire line marks a move by the industry to better support the pistol.
