Quick Sighting: A Fast Way to Sight in Your Rifle

By Aaron on November 9, 2011 No Comments

Quick Sighting a RifleSo it’s early November and all over the country hunters are in the fields stalking that buck of a lifetime. The cool air has arrived, leaves are falling, and some areas of the country already have snow. Rifle season has already begun in some areas, and in others the opening of the rifle season is fast approaching.

One of the most important things a hunter or sport shooter must do is make sure that their rifle is zeroed. The need for zeroing goes for shooters using iron sights, scopes or other optics. Iron sights and red dot optics are their own animals, so I want to focus in on shooters using scoped rifles.

Something I realized recently is that many shooters aren’t aware of the easiest and quickest way to zero in their scoped rifle. Particularly if you have just had the scope mounted to that rifle. Some people think that having a rifle “bore” sighted is sufficient to make the rifle shoot on target.

Hi Viz Front Sight for Ruger LCR

By Richard on September 10, 2010 2 Comments

Want a replacement front sight for your Ruger LCR?  Hi Viz has a solution.

Hi Viz is now offering a fiber optic front sight for the Ruger revolver.  Available in red or green, the sight is resin overmolded and pre-drilled for easy installation.  Also, replacement roll pin is included in the package.

Hi Viz calls their fiber optic sight a “LitePipe,” and my experience is they are very bright and easy to see.  So, if you are in the market for a new front sight on your LCR, give Hi Viz a look.

The Real Cost of Green Lasers?

By Richard on September 9, 2010 No Comments

Crimson Trace is now offering Interchangeable Laser Modules in red and green for the MVF-515 series light and laser foregrips for AR-type rifles.  Green lasers are notoriously more expensive, and many people have questioned the higher prices charged for them.  I may have discovered the answer on the Crimson Trace web site:

Truth be known, I like Crimson Trace.  They make quality products, and I do not believe they are trying to gouge their customers on green lasers.  But, it is a funny typo…

Crimson Trace LG-447 for Taurus Slim

By Richard on September 2, 2010 1 Comments

Crimson Trace announced a new Laserguard for the Taurus Slim line of pistols: the LG-447.

Like others in the Laserguard line, the LG-447 mounts to the front of the Taurus trigger guard instead of as a grip replacement type of laser for which Crimson Trace has become famous.  The new LG-447 will be made in the United States.

MSRP is set at $209.

LaserLyte RL-TS Laser for Taurus Slim

By Richard on August 26, 2010 No Comments

LaserLyte rear sight laser for the Taurus Slim pistols

LaserLyte officially announced the rear sight laser for the Taurus 709, 740, and 708 Slim pistols. As I previously posted, the RL-TS laser was shipped to me in advance of the notice, and a full review will be posted next week.

The new laser sight is similar to the previous models released by LaserLyte. The laser unit is incorporated into the rear sight, meaning it generally will not affect the use of any holsters you may already have for your Taurus Slim pistol. This is a huge advantage over some competing products.

The LaserLyte RL-TS has two modes: steady-on and pulse. The laser is red, and has an approximate run time of six hours.

Check back next week for a full review.  In the meantime, I have more photos below.

LaserLyte laser for Taurus Judge, other revolvers

By Richard on August 19, 2010 No Comments

LaserLyte announced a “side mount” laser for the Taurus line of revolvers, including the incredibly popular Taurus Judge.

LaserLte says the Side Mount Laser (SML) is easily mounted underneath the rubber grip of the revolver and allows the shooter to retain the factory or custom grips, and use the same holster as an unmodified gun.

Like LaserLyte’s other products, the SML has a constant on mode and a pulsing mode.  Battery life is rated for five hours in constant mode, and 10 hours in pulsing.

Installation appears to be very simple: simply remove the grip, screw the fitted side panel into place, and then replace the grips.

The LaserLyte rear sight laser shown on this Ruger SR-9c is coming to the Taurus SLIM line of pistols.

I have received word that LaserLyte is making a Rear Sight Laser for the Taurus SLIM 709 and 740 pistols.  The really nice thing is LaserLyte sent word that one is on its way to me for review.

The LaserLyte RL-TS Rear Sight Laser for the Taurus SLIM 709 and 740 pistols is expected to ship in two months, and you will have a full review on it to help you make a buying decision.

The laser will retail for $199.95, but pricing on the street will be much lower.  Stay tuned for more information on the LaserLyte rear laser sight for the Taurus SLIM line of handguns.  These things may get a lot of traction in the coming months.
