Taurus 732 TCP in .32 ACP

taurus_tcp_01Taurus announced the 732 pistol, a TCP in .32 ACP, at the 2010 SHOT Show.  Somehow, I failed to report on this pistol when I was at the SHOT Show.

The Taurus 732 is the second generation of the Taurus Compact Pistol (TCP), the first being chambered in .380 ACP and introduced at the 2009 SHOT Show.  The 732 is chambered in .32 ACP, and shares the same general design as the .380 version.

The frame is black polymer.  The 732 will be available in blued and stainless steel finishes on the slide.  Barrel length is 3.3″.

New CorBon PH Line of Ammunition for 2010

At the 2010 SHOT Show, CorBon announced a variety of African big game loads in the PH line.  The PH line of ammunition features Barnes DPX and BBS bullets loaded in the traditional dangerous game calibers.  The DPX bullet is the Barnes all copper hollowpoint, while the BBS is the Barnes Banded Solid bullet designed for deep penetration.

The new loads are chambered in .416 Remington Magnum, .416 Rigby, .404 Jeffreys, .458 Winchester Magnum, .458 Lott, .470 NE, .500 Jeffreys, .500 Nitro and .505 Gibbs.  Each load offers an identical weight DPX and BBS bullet to match your needs.

Black Hills Introduces New Load for .338 Norma Magnum

Black Hills Ammunition introduced a new load for the recently introduced .338 Normal Magnum at the 2010 SHOT Show.  Less than two years old, the .338 Norma Magnum was designed to be a more efficient alternative to the .338 Lapua.  The Black Hills load pushes a 300 grain Sierra Matchking at 2725 fps for almost 5000 ft-lbs (4946) of energy.

Dan Wesson Guardian 1911 Pistol

danwesson_guardian_03aCZ revamped the Dan Wesson 1911 line, and were showing off the new pistols at the 2010 SHOT Show.  The Dan Wesson Guardian was one example.

The Guardian is a commander-sized 1911 pistol chambered in 9mm.  The forged alloy frame has a black “duty” finish, which is the same finish as what is on the Valor handguns mad by CZ.  The rear of the grip is bob-tailed making it easier to conceal.  The sights are fixed tritium three-dot.

The Guardian felt good in the hand, and it balanced well.  It is a touch heavier than similar sized, polymer framed pistols from competitors, but that extra weight should make the 9mm recoil darn-near non-existent.  Weight is listed as 1.8 pounds (about 28.8 ounces).

The single stack magazine holds nine rounds of 9mm cartridges.  The barrel is 4.25″.

MSRP is $1530.

Taurus SLIM 708 in .380 ACP

taurus_708_02aThe Taurus SLIM 708 pistol in .380 ACP was one of two new SLIM pistols announced at the 2010 SHOT Show.  The Taurus SLIM 740 in .40 S&W was the other.  The Taurus 708 is modeled on the very popular 9mm SLIM introduced by Taurus in 2009.

The 708 is a compact pistol that holds seven .380 ACP rounds in the magazine plus one in the chamber.  It can be had with a blued or stainless steel finish.  Barrel length is 3.2″ and weighs only 19 ounces unloaded.

The Taurus SLIM 708 has a fixed front sight, with an adjustable rear.  The sights are very low profile, but they are usable.

As with the other pistols in the SLIM line, the frame is polymer and the pistol has Taurus’s DA/SA action with the “Strike Two” capability.  The SLIM has a manual safety – sweep down to fire.  The safety is on the left side of the frame.

The SLIM 708 samples at the Taurus booth felt good in the hand.  The safety was easy to manipulate and smartly clicked off.  I would imagine that shooting the relatively low powered .380 ACP out of this pistol would be a very enjoyable experience.  While I would be more inclined to pick up the 9mm version, I can certainly understand why someone would want the .380 Taurus SLIM 708.

KRISS Super V .45 ACP Submachine Gun

We got a chance to shoot the KRISS Super V sub gun at the 2010 Media Day at the Range.  Media Day is the day before the SHOT Show kicks off.  Manufacturers can bring out their guns and gear for gun writers to shoot and get a feel for.

TDI makes the KRISS Super V as an alternative to other sub guns, such as the H&K MP5.  The KRISS is chambered in .45 ACP, yet because of the patented recoil reducing technology, it generates less recoil than a 9mm MP5.

Here is a video of the KRISS Super V.  Note the lack of muzzle rise, even in the two-round burst mode.
