New DeSantis Gear for 2013

By Richard on November 29, 2012 No Comments

DeSantis pink Clip GripIn the final weeks of the year, DeSantis announced several new products: a pink Clip Grip, a new line of inexpensive leather gun belts and a Pocket Shot holster for the Ruger LCP with a Crimson Trace LG-431 attached.

Pink Clip Grip

The Clip Grip is a polymer revolver grip with a portion that sticks out to hook onto your belt or waistband.  This allows the shooter to carry the gun without using a holster.  This new model is in pink and will fit Smith & Wesson J-frame revolvers with a round butt.

DeSantis Thigh High Holster

By Richard on September 21, 2012 2 Comments

Thigh High HolsterDeSantis announced a new holster in their synthetic line of holsters called the Thigh High.  The new holster is designed for small handguns such as the SIG P238 and Smith & Wesson 642.

The gun is being marketed toward women, though I think they miss a large market of kilt-wearing folk.  Frankly, I just don’t know if Jay G is concerned about his “freedom to express your feminine style.”

Described as an “intimate-wear holster,” the Thigh High scabbard is constructed of neoprene and nylon and is available in right hand and left hand models.  While it claims to be comfortable enough to make “date night all night,” I do wonder what the pair of garter straps are supposed to latch onto to prevent the rig from sliding down the leg.  After all, most of the dresses and skirts I see on women are not using a belt, and having a one pound weight pulling on them is not likely to be flattering.

DeSantis Intruder: Ruger LCR Holster

By Richard on February 14, 2012 No Comments

DeSantis Ruger LCR HolsterDeSantis Gunhide is now making the Intruder holster for the Ruger LCR revolver.  This new Ruger LCR holster is an inside-the-waistband, tuckable style allowing for deep concealment in virtually any wardrobe choice.

The Kudex holster is attached to a leather back.  The leather backing is coated in polyurethane for long-term durability and use.

This Ruger LCR holster is adjustable for both height and cant.  By adjusting the clips, the user can move the gun up and down, or tilt it forward or backward for his or her personal needs.

DeSantis Mad Max Holster

By Richard on January 7, 2012 4 Comments

DeSantis Mad MaxSharing the name with one of the better movies of the 70′s, the Mad Max holster was introduced by DeSantis.  While the movie showed a society in decay, the DeSantis holster can help prevent the loss of society to the criminal gangs (or am I reaching?)

Regardless, the Mad Max is a tuckable, inside-the-waistband holster that comes with both leather loops and plastic J-hooks to anchor it to the belt.

DeSantis states that the Mad Max is an “updated version of a holster originally made popular by one of the custom makers.”  I don’t know if this means they licensed the design or bought out another maker.  Feel free to educate me in the comments section if you know.

DeSantis Hot-Jox

By Richard on January 3, 2012 2 Comments

DeSantis Hot-Jox HolsterDeSantis announced the re-introduction of the Hot-Jox concealment holster.  The non-traditional holster is a pouch that holds a pistol and magazine below the beltline of your pants.  The same concept is employed by the Smart Carry and Thunderwear.

The Hot-Jox has been around for a number of years, so I’m not clear on what improvements (if any) have been made to the system.

MSRP on the Hot-Jox is $49.99.

The New Review of the DeSantis Nemesis

By Richard on June 12, 2010 4 Comments

desantis_nemesis_new_01aThe DeSantis Nemesis is a synthetic pocket holster designed for a wide number of concealed carry firearms.  I’ll save you from the suspense: the Nemesis is an excellent holster that is also inexpensive, making it a great value.

I previously reviewed the Nemesis in August of 2009, but did not realize at the time that the Nemesis had undergone a few design changes to fix the problems I identified in that review.  I had the original-style Nemesis, but DeSantis released a new version of the holster a few months before I wrote my review.

In May, Gene DeSantis sent me a note letting me know the company updated the Nemesis.  He was kind enough to send me a current sample of the Nemesis for review, and I am happy to say that the holster meets all of my expectations.

DeSantis Nemesis Pocket Holster Review

By Richard on August 31, 2009 2 Comments

desantis_nemesis_05a

Ed. note:  The Nemesis has been updated, and a review of the new model Nemesis is here.

The DeSantis Nemesis is a synthetic holster designed to carry a wide range of compact handguns in a pants pocket. Compared to many holsters on the market, the Nemesis is relatively inexpensive option to carry a concealed firearm. During my review, I found the Nemesis to be a quality holster, but with two small problems that I explain below.

I purchased a Nemesis holster to carry my S&W 642 revolver. The 642 is my “everywhere, all-the-time” kind of gun. Light enough to go everywhere, yet still chambered in a respectable caliber (.38 Special).

The Nemesis did a good job of hiding the outline of the revolver in a loose fitting pocket. In a pair of cargo shorts, it would be highly unlikely anyone would notice the gun, much less identify it as such. In a regular pair of jeans, the Desantis holster still did a respectable job, though the naturally closer fitting cut of the jeans made the gun a little more obvious than I would have liked. With a pair of relaxed casual pants like Dockers, the gun was well concealed. Read More…
