SIG P238 Tribal

by: Richard Johnson 4 Comments

SIG P238 Tribal picture

The SIG P238 Tribal is just one of the new variations of existing guns that SIG Sauer showed at the SHOT Show this year.  Generally, the company will roll out several variations of their popular guns at the show, with some of them becoming permanent additions to the line, while others become limited runs.  The P238 line has seen quite a few variations during the past few years.

The P238 Tribal is little different from the standard pistol in function and size.  The gun is still a single-action, subcompact handgun chambered for the .380 ACP cartridge.  It has a 2.7″ barrel length and weighs only 15.2 ounces (unloaded and without a magazine.)

SAR Arms 357 Revolver

SAR 357 revolver

The SAR 357 is a revolver made by Sarsilmaz and chambered for the .357 Magnum cartridge.  The handgun bears a resemblance to the classic Smith & Wesson revolvers and has several features like the Smith guns.

I had a chance to get a feel for one at the SAR Arms exhibit at the 2013 SHOT Show.  The sales staff was busy with many other customers, so I did not get a chance to draw out a lof of details about this pistol, but what I know I will share here.

Updated Mossberg SA-20 Autoloader Shotgun

by: Richard Johnson 12 Comments

Mossberg SA-20

The newly updated Mossberg SA-20 Field/Tactical autoloader is a 20 gauge shotgun with a 20″ barrel, synthetic stock and a variety of features that might make it a good home defense gun for you.  With the updated version shown at the 2013 SHOT Show, I immediately saw the gun’s home defense potential for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is reduced recoil.

The semi-auto action tends to absorb some of the recoil in the mechanical process of moving the bolt, extracting a spent shell and chambering a new one.  Combine that with the lower recoil of a 20 gauge compared to a 12 gauge, and one can see how this gun will likely be more tolerable to someone who is more recoil sensitive.  I’ve never had a problem training people of all sizes to shoot a 12 gauge, but a semi-auto 20 is simply easier for some people to control.

Crimson Trace CMR 203(G): Inexpensive Green Laser

Review of the Crimson Trace CM203 green laser

While at Media Day I stopped in and checked out the new offerings from Crimson Trace.  The CMR 203 (G – for green) immediately caught my eye for its ambidextrous controls, and ease of mount to a pistol or rifle rail.

UNIVERSAL MOUNT

Crimson Trace advises this laser system is designed to be universal to any M1913 Picatinny or Weaver Accessory rails, with (4) fit inserts included.  This laser can be mounted to pistols, rifles, or shotguns.  The CMR 203(G) easily mounts to the rail system and is secured by two retention screws.

EOTech Zombie II: A Holo Sight for the Coming Apocalypse

by: Aaron Leave a Comment

EOTech Zombie II

Another new addition to the L3 EOTech family is the Zombie II Holographic Weapon Sight (HWS).  The Zombie I by EOTech brought “un-dead” hunters the unique biohazard reticle.  The Zombie II, Model XPS2-Z2, will have the same biohazard reticle, with 20 different brightness settings.  EOTech advertises this as the same reticle seen in Call of Duty Black Ops II.  The Zombie II will also have the same biohazard symbol on the top of the hood like the Zombie I.

The biggest addition to the Zombie II, over the Zombie I, is the addition of the “Reaper Z” camouflage pattern.  I’m not a real big fan of the Zombie-pocalypse offerings, but this camouflage pattern actually has some potential with me.

Stag 8T Tactical Piston Carbine

Stag 8T

Nothing earth-shattering from Stag at this year’s SHOT Show, but they did have the new Stag Model 8T – Tactical Piston Carbine.  Alright, before you get too excited, this is a Model 8 with the addition of the modular free-floating VRS-T hand guard.  Yep, that’s it!

Before I get too negative with Stag I have to admit that this is a pretty nice hand guard.  The VRS-T takes on a triangular shape with the base wider than the top.  This handguard is made by Diamondhead.  It mimics the original AR-15/M-16 hand guard in a way, but the VRS-T goes way beyond that.  The VRS-T is a modular hand guard that allows you to deck out your AR-15 to your wildest dreams.  Just add some rail sections to the pre-drilled holes and you’re ready to go tacti-cool!  Stag even offers VRS-T rail sections (3” for $15, and 6” for $22).

Wilson Combat WCP320 Carry Review

The Wilson Combat WCP320 Carry is one of the best 9mm pistols I’ve reviewed. From its announcement as the new standard sidearm for the United States military, the popularity of the SIG SAUER P320 pistol seemingly exploded. Original SIG pistols are in high demand and aftermarket accessories are plentiful. You can even build your own […]

Girsan MC1911 CT Review

In today’s review of the Girsan MC1911 CT, I take a look at a classically designed .45 ACP pistol with modern updates including a red dot sight. What might draw a lot of people in is the low price tag: only $661 at full retail. With the standard features, the gun seems like a great […]

Springfield Armory XD 9mm Subcompact Pistol Review

While single-stack 9mm pistols seem to be all the rage in modern concealed carry, subcompact pistols that hold a bit more ammunition shouldn’t be dismissed by anyone interested in personal protection. Cheap Riot Guns

Riots are raging across the United States – and have been for days. Consequently, I’ve had a number of emails come in from readers who are looking for the best self-defense pistol on a budget.
