Heizer DoubleTap .45

The Heizer DoubleTap is a two-shot .45 ACP pistol that was announced last year, and subsequently shown at the 2012 SHOT Show.  The DoubleTap is a very thin, lightweight gun designed for concealed carry.  As it is very flat, it could make an excellent pocket gun.

The new Heizer pistol is an all-metal gun that is fully machined.  The DoubleTap can be purchased with a titanium frame or with and aluminum frame.  The pistol weighs 14 ounces in titanium.  In the aluminum configuration, weight drops to 12 ounces.  Both versions are only 5/8″ thick.

The barrels are called “quick-changing” and allow the shooter to swap from the standard .45 ACP to a 9mm cartridge.  No tools are needed to switch barrels.  Barrels can also be had ported for reduced muzzle flip.

Les Baer Boss .45 1911

les_baer_boss_01aInspired by the 1970 Boss 429 Mustang, Les Baer introduced the Boss .45 1911 pistol at the 2010 SHOT Show.  The new Boss 1911 is a good looking pistol, with some solid features from one of the best known 1911 builders in the USA.

The Boss is based on Baer’s Premier II pistol, with added features “…to really make it the Boss of custom .45s.”  The Boss is guaranteed to shoot three inch groups at 50 yards.  MSRP is $2109.

For those of you that do not know, Ford made the Boss 429 Mustang in 1969 and 1970 only.  The massive 429 cubic inch engine had to be squeezed into the Mustang’s engine compartment by Kar Kraft, an outside assembly facility contracted by Ford.  The Boss 429 was one of the most powerful production, drag-ready cars made at the height of the muscle car era.

Buffalo Bore’s .45 Auto Rim

Buffalo Bore is now manufacturing the .45 Auto Rim in four loadings: two standard pressure and two “+P”.

buffalo_bore_autorimIn standard pressure, you can get a 200 gr JHP at a little over 1000 fps (444+ ft-lb) out of a 4″ S&W revolver.  The 255 gr hard cast FP is clocking almost 870 fps (410+ ft-lb) out of the same 4″ Smith.

With the “+P” designation, the 200 JHP is sizzling at almost 1200 fps (635 ft-lb) out of the 4″ S&W.  The hard cast 255 gr FP is moving at more than 1030 fps (570+ ft-lb).  These are amazing numbers.  It should be noted that there is not a SAAMI specification for “+P” in the .45 Auto Rim.  Consequently, use only a modern firearm with the +P ammunition.  Buffalo Bore does state that the +P loads are safe to use in all post-WWII revolvers chambered for the .45 ACP.

The final product was the Charter Arms Pitbull. Although we were promised a .45 ACP version also, the gun is only available in 9mm and .40 S&W. Read more about the new guns here.
