Orange County Sheriff Revoking CCW Permits
ByOrange County has had problems with it’s sheriffs.
The last sheriff of Orange County, California, Michael Carona, has been indicted on federal corruption charges and left office in January 2008. Now the current sheriff, Sandra Hutchins, is actively working to revoke the concealed carry permits issued by previous sheriffs.
California allows citizens to carry a concealed firearm if they are issued a permit by their county sheriff. The problem with California’s law is the sheriff is not required to issue anyone a permit. Many states, such as Florida, are “shall-issue” states, which means if the citizen meets the eligibility requirements, the state is required to issue the citizen a permit. California is a “may-issue” state, which essentially means permits are issued at the whim of a single government official and can be denied for any reason whatsoever.
In Orange County, only about 1100 people possess a CCW permit. Of those, 422 have been sent letters by the sheriff indicating the permit will be revoked unless the citizen shows some reason why they “need” one. I guess reasons like “I’m a free citizen of the United States” and the protection of self and family don’t cut it with Sheriff Hutchins.
I’ve never understood why the brass at law enforcement agencies tend to be anti-gun. When sued by a citizen for “failure to protect” style cases, the first thing the department lawyers scream is there is no duty to provide protection to individuals. And, they would be correct. The thing that galls me, though, is that these same chiefs and sheriffs would deny you the ability to protect yourself, even though they know they cannot protect you.

Ridiculous!!! hutchins is quoted by the Times saying “it would look bad for the county if one of their CCW holders hurt someone”. What about the CCW holders that HELP people!!! Typical CA liberal glass half empty view.

Nice going Sheriff Hutchins. It takes a woman to being sense to this gun problem. No way to justify having guns for “protection.” Would mean keeping a loaded gun in a house or car…great for kids, impulisve people, etc. If no bullets, who would have time to load a gun to fend of some criminal? Guns should not be a pay-off or reward. Keep up the good work. Don’t let the Supervisors force you to do anything you feel you should not do. This is not Chicago!

Ms. Rosener- Please provide some statistics to back up your statements. The guns that are typically involved in accidental (or intentional) shootings of people are not owned by law abiding, trained, responsible gun owners. These are the types of people that would take the time and effort to get a CCW. Your statement is utter liberal bullshit.

Ms Rosener. Thank you for listing that you’re a PHD. I have several PHD friends that rely on their “intellect” instead of common sense. Guns are NOT the issue, its the criminals that use them. Are you so smart that you fail to see this? I bet you believe you’ll never be a victim of crime because you most likely live upper middle class and don’t “consort” with the “bad” of society. Goody for you. But you know what? There are a lot of people that don’t have that luxury and are faced with crime every day. Guns are the best equalizer…especially against another gun.
Do you recall the most recent story of that poor news anchorwoman that was killed in her home. I can bet you any amount of money that she though like you did. “I don’t need a gun”, “Guns promote violence”,”That only happens to other people” etc. etc. How do I know this…because she wasn’t protected.The number one thing victims have in common is lack of protection. That’s why they were victims. If you don’t want to carry or be mature enough to handle a gun….then don’t. All I ask is to be an American and allow us…those who can handle a gun, know the risks, and are mature enough to make a decision and choice… to own them. Do your research from un biased sites (not Brady sponsored sites which are many) on statistics. Watch the 20/20 report on Gun Control, read the CDC report on Gun Control. 911 worked so well for the terrorists because they new that Americans have been “brainwashed” not to fight back and to be complacent. They also new no one would be armed. How else could they take over a plane with freakin’ box cutters!!!
So Ms PHD, balance your life with Brains and Brawn. For all your Brains, its so simple for a 20 yo punk, without a GED, to take your posessions, your freedom, and possibly your life. Watch the news, its happens all over the place. You can rely on calling 911 with the average response being 15 minutes. An armed person can kill up to 6 people in less than 2 minutes. You do the math. “Those that do nothing to contribute to the safety and protection of their fellow man are just as guilty as those that want to take away that freedom”. By the way, did you know that your state is ranked one of the highest for the Brady gun control sites (favorably) and ironically, one of the highest crime rates? I live in good Ol’ Utah. Our University allows CCW carry and since its inception….not ONE violent act has been committed. Actually, overall crime has dropped on campus. We have a high percentage of CCW and one of the lowest overall violent crime rates…even with a large population of violent gangs. Just like all the states that have adopted CCW, their crime rates have dropped. But you’re smarter than them…aren’t you? Do your research….for a PHD you sound awfully stupid.

m.rosener,you say at the end of your post this is not Chicago.did you know that no honest citizen is allowed to carry a gun in Chicago. only criminals have guns in Chicago.of course you didn’t.there is a lot you need to learn.Freud said fear of weapons is a lack of emotional and sexual maturity. bye
