New Otis Gear for 2015

Otis Ripcord

Otis Technology will release a number of new products at the 2015 SHOT Show. Among the new gear are cleaning tools, hearing protection and iPhone cases.

Let’s take a look at what is coming…

Ripcord Expansion

Otis makes a line of bore cleaning products called Ripcord. These tools allow for a single pass cleaning of a fouled barrel similar in concept to the Bore Snake from Hoppes. The Otis product uses Nomex fibers to clean the bore. Additionally, they help make the Ripcord very resistant to heat: up to 700° F.

For 2015, Otis expands this line to include several new calibers:

  • .243/6.5mm
  • .270/6.8mm
  • 12 gauge

Existing calibers include .22/5.56mm, .308/7.62, .357/9mm, .40/10mm and .45. The MSRP is $14.99 on the existing calibers. The new calibers are expected to be the same.

Star Chamber Cleaning Tool

Otis is now making a specialized tool that helps clean the star chamber area of AR-10 and AR-15 rifles. This tool helps to efficiently scrape the crud out. I do not have an MSRP on this one yet.

Ear Shield

SensGard

Otis will also be selling hearing protection called Ear Shield in 2015. The Ear Shield is a passive sound attenuation device that works by creating an extension of the natural ear canal rather than muffling the noise.

I believe the Ear Shield is either manufactured under license from, or is simply provided by, a company called SensGard. The Otis product – other than the branding – looks very similar to the SensGard.

Previously, I tested the SensGard ear pro. I found them to work better than I expected. Since they fold into a small package, I keep a set in my range bag in case the batteries go down on my Howard Leight ear pro.

iPhone Gear

Otis Snow Lizard

Otis will continue a relationship with Snow Lizard to sell a line of cases for the current generation iPhone and iPad products. Snow Lizard makes a range of protective cases including cases with battery packs and solar panels. Otis distributes these cases for the iPhone 4 & 5, and will begin selling cases for the iPhone 6 & 6+ in 2015.
