Several months ago, I posted about a Pennsylvania woman who had her concealed carry permit revoked and restored by a sheriff after complaints that she was exercising her right to open carry a firearm in public.  The woman, Melanie Hain, has suffered a number of personal attacks and threats because she exercised her right.

Recently, Hain agreed to an interview with a Patriot News reporter via e-mail.  The full story is worth reading, as Hain articulates her rights very well.  From the interview, proof that Hain gets it:

“Like it or not, I do not have to validate myself to the public for my actions…I have come to the conclusion that this is an impossible task. It may sound arrogant, but…the Constitution has guaranteed me a right, and there is nothing more to say about it.”

Amen.

Chicago, IL is known for its draconian gun laws, yet that’s not enough for the Rev. Jesse Jackson.  Citing more than 500 homicides in Chicago this year, Jackson makes the case that more, not less, gun control is needed.

Jackson and Jennifer Bishop, from the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence,  outlined a five part process to further restrict gun rights in Chicago.  Those steps are: Read More→

Filed under “This person got elected?” comes the UPI story about delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton from D.C.  Norton thinks that people will misunderstand the recent change in the Department of the Interior policy that allows citizens to carry a concealed firearm if it is allowed under the local jurisdiction’s laws.  Norton is afraid that normally law abiding citizens will carry a concealed firearm to the inauguration.  D.C. does not allow citizens to carry a concealed firearm, so under the current policy, no citizen is allowed to carry a concealed firearm at the inauguration.

Since someone who would do harm to the president is a criminal, and criminals by definition do not obey the laws, it would seem that Norton is only worried about stupid, but law abiding, citizens. That’s kind of funny because I am worried about stupid politicians.

Ammunition Prices Increase Expensive AmmoI got an e-mail from Natchez Shooters Supplies warning of another ammunition price increase set to take place on January 1, 2009.  The price increases come from the factory and range from 5-12%.  This falls in line with my prior posts on ammunition price increases.

Natchez is a good business and I do not believe they are trying to gouge their customers.  But, with the current demand on ammunition, prices do rise.  So, if you are thinking about buying some ammo, sooner rather than later might be the smart investment.

In recent years, Sturm, Ruger & Co. have deviated from the larger, bulkier pistols they were known for and have been producing slimmer and smaller pistols such as the SR-9 and the LCP.  The SR-9 has achieved moderate success, while the Ruger LCP has been an undeniable sensation.

The question is: What will Ruger introduce at the 2009 SHOT Show? Read More→

Sigs Melt Too

Posted by: Richard | Comments (3)

Thanks to The Firearm Blog for bringing this story from France. It seems to ‘dry his gun after cleaning,’ a French police officer put his Sig pistol in the oven for 20 minutes at 400ºF. The results were not pretty.  <Insert joke about guns and the French here.>

A few notes to all of you gun enthusiasts:

  1. Don’t do anything to your gun that would require baking it in the oven;
  2. See #1.

Anti-gun people always claim they want to “reduce crime” or “stop gun violence”, but they only seem to go after the lawful ownership of guns with more restrictions on the purchasing and ownership requirements on the law abiding citizens.

In Philadelphia, a group of religious leaders “…who’ve formed a collective effort to quell illegal gun purchases in the city,” are now pressuring gun dealers to make changes in how they conduct lawful sales of firearms. Huh?

The primary way to reduce crime involving firearms is to prosecute and incarcerate everyone involved in a crime involving a firearm.  Studies have shown that aggressive prosecution reduces crime.  The unfortunate state of this country is that in many jurisdictions, only a fraction of the people arrested for violent crimes are ever prosecuted and incarcerated.

The complete story from Philly.com.
