Remington RP45: New Pistol Being Launched at NASGW

remington rp45 new pistol

Years in the making, Remington is finally launching the RP45 pistol. This polymer-framed, striker-fired handgun has been under development for several years and just now coming to market.

I first learned about the gun in 2014, and have been waiting to see when it would finally be announced. You can take a look at the photos of the poster featuring the pistol at the National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesaler’s show this week on social media.

The photos here are prior press photos from Remington. I’ve not been able to determine what aspects of the gun may have changed as the photos seem to be an identical match.

Remington RP45 trigger

As you can see, the gun uses a trigger safety. According to Remington, the gun has a single action trigger with a short reset. It also has an ambidextrous slide stop and a reversible magazine release. The trigger guard is slightly undercut to allow for a higher grip on the pistol.

Remington is using double stack magazines which should give you more rounds between reloads. The potential downside is this may cause the grip to be thicker than optimal for many people. Remington states the grip fits 95% of people, but I am skeptical.

Up front, the gun has a dovetailed sight and a Picatinny-type rail for adding a light or laser. The slide and barrel finish is a PVD process.

One of the things I like about this pistol is the use of the hard edge on the rear sight. While this is a small detail, I like that the company included it. It allows you to operate the slide one-handed.

Not sure, but that would make sense. Building a gun around an existing magazine has been done by other companies in the past. It eliminates one more thing that has to be R&D-ed.

Sort of late to the party but we shall see how it sells. That is the true test. Ruger came out with their Glock type pistol and I don’t think they are flying off the shelves. Pretty hard to knock Glock out of the top position. Long live the G17 and G19.

I like the fact the Ruger and Remington are f-i-n-a-l-l-y trying to give Glock a run for the money for a polymer framed striker handgun. However, after nearly 3 years of research and development, the RP45 sure is nothing to brag about in the looks department….kind of an eyesore.

Good Job Remy…you have truly innovated nowhere. The RP-45 has a nice spot in the crappy/mediocre hall of fame.
