Gen 4 Glock 21

Gen4 Glock 21The Gen 4 Glock 21 is now a reality.  The Glock 21 is one of the more discussed models from the company:  on the one hand, it gives the shooter 13+1 rounds of the powerful .45 ACP to handle whatever threat may present itself.  On the other hand, the gun is noticeably thicker than other Glock models, creating problems for many shooters with small to medium sized hands.

With the Gen 4 treatment to the model 21, Glock will hopefully satisfy all of their fans who like the cartridge developed some hundred years ago.  One of the major changes to the Gen 4 pistols is the modular back strap system that allows the owner to custom fit the size of each gun to his or her hand.  While the “Does size matter?” argument will never go away, Glock has certainly made a credible effort to make the 21 comfortably useable by most shooters.

Safety Harbor Firearms: New Shotguns!

Safety Harbor Firearms

Safety Harbor Firearms is rolling out several new shotguns ahead of the 2012 SHOT Show.  All three are short-barreled shotgunsfrom the company’s KEG line.

Two new models of KEG 12 (Kompact Entry Gun) shotguns seem to live up to the line’s name as they are outfitted with breacher-style muzzle brakes.  Watching the video (below), it would appear the brakes do a respectable job of limiting recoil.

One of the new KEG12’s has a 7 1/4″ barrel, while the second uses a 10″ barrel.  Both have a one-shell extension on the magazine tube, taking capacity up to four 2 3/4″ shells (3+1) for the shorter KEG12, and five shells (4+1) for the longer gun.

Lime Green Walther P22

Lime Green Walther P22This previously escaped my notice, but you can buy a lime green Walther P22 in a carbon fiber finish.  I don’t know what kind of demand there is for a lime green pistol, but Walther has that market covered.

MSRP on this gun is $410 and it available as a Talo Distributors exclusive.  Lipsey’s lists the pistol in their catalog, so if you can’t find it locally, your dealer can probably order you a lime green Walther P22.

Color aside, the Walther P22 has been quite popular with the rimfire crowd.  The handgun is chambered for the inexpensive and fun to shoot .22 LR and has a sporty style.  The P22 also has a reasonable price tag.  A lot of people really like the ergonomics of these pistols.  I’ve been told by some shooters that this gun is the best fitting pistol they have ever held.

New Ruger SP101 Revolvers

Ruger SP101 revolverRuger announced two new SP101 revolvers.  Both SP101 revolvers are larger, target-sized revolvers featuring longer barrels and fiber optic sights when compared to the standard SP101 handguns.

The two new Ruger revolvers are very similar in appearance and demensions.  The first is chambered in the classic .357 Magnum cartridge, while the second new model is chambered in the ubiquitous .22 LR.  Capacity on the Magnum is five rounds, while the rimfire will hold eight cartridges.

Both models use a 4.2″ long barrel.  Existing SP101 revolvers have either 2.25″ or 3.06″ barrels.  So the new wheelguns have more than inch of extra barrel over the next closest gun.

Ruger outfitted both of these new handguns with a green fiber optic front sight and an adjustable rear sight.  Like the other models in the SP101 line, the frame, cylinder and barrel are all made of stainless steel with a satin stainless finish.

Winchester Razorback XT Ammo

Winchester Razorback XT ammunitionRolling out in 2012 is the Winchester Razorback XT line of ammunition designed for hog hunting.  Initially, the Razorback XT will be loaded in .223 and .308.  The .223 will use a 64 grain bullet with a muzzle velocity of 3020 fps.  The .308 load will use a 150 grain bullet with a velocity of 2810 fps.

Two thoughts.  First, hunting wild pigs is really catching on, and it is nice to see the industry keeping up with the needs of their customers.  The Razorback XT might be the first line specifically developed for hogs, but I don’t think it will be the last.  Hog hunting is becoming hugely popular, and I can say it is both an enjoyable and needed activity.  Feral hogs are really causing problems in many areas of the country, and turning them into ham and bacon is a great way to spend the day.  Feed your family with these pests!
