New ATN X-Sight II Rifle Scope

ATN X-Sight II

American Technologies Network (ATN) announced additions to the Smart HD line with the introduction of two new rifle scopes: the ATN X-Sight II 3-14x and the ATN X-Sight II 5-20x. The new day/night scopes offer updated electronics and capabilities when compared to the original X-Sight scopes.

These scopes are electronic rifle scopes, not pure glass optics. The scope displays an electronic image to the shooter instead of the shooter looking directly through the glass at the target. This is akin to the difference between taking shots with a modern mirrorless camera as opposed to a traditional SLR. Among the many features of this kind of scope, a shooter is able to electronically make adjustments to the point of aim instead of clicking knobs.

Trijicon MRO: New Mini Reflex Sight

Trijicon MRO Mounted on AR-15

Trijicon announced the introduction of the MRO: Miniature Rifle Optic. The new Trijicon MRO is a non-magnifying red dot-type optic that is lightweight and compact. (Ed. note: Read my MRO review here.)

According to the company, the MRO significantly reduces the tube effect sometimes found with other optics. Trijicon states they managed to overcome this by using a large objective lens (25mm) and keeping the optic length to a minimum. Trijicon advises the sight is parallax free and has an infinite eye relief.

New EOTech 518 Holographic Weapon Sight

EOTech 518

EOTech announced a new holographic weapon site called the 518. The EOTech 518 is an evolutionary advancement of the highly popular model 512 that is found on many AR-15 rifles.

The 518 uses AA batteries – alkaline or lithium – and quickly attaches to the Picatinny rail on any AR receiver. Alkaline batteries will power the sight for about 600 continuous hours, while a pair of lithium batteries will keep it running for about 1,000 hours.

The New SureFire X400 Ultra WeaponLight – Laser

SureFire X400 Ultra weaponlight

SureFire announced the new X400 Ultra:  a white light, green laser combo unit for firearms.

The light mounts to a standard Picatinny or accessory rail and puts out a maximum of 500 lumens. A momentary/constant-on switch allows the shooter to control the light with one finger.  Remote switches are also available from SureFire.

The laser uses a green 505 nm wavelength light for improved visibility when compared to standard red beams.  This gives the shooter an increased ability to use the laser for aiming in bright light conditions.

New HiViz Fiber Optic Sights

HiViz is one of the companies that has made self-illuminating fiber optic weapon sights very popular among shooters.  At this year’s SHOT Show HiViz announced new offerings in some of today’s most popular handguns.  HiViz combined the durability of their overmolded sights with the versatility of their LitePipes.  Each sight is made of steel, with ramped and serrated sight blade and square profile.

Advancements include a skeletonized sight body that provides the same or greater strength as the overmolded design.  The second advancement is the machined internal LitePipe locking feature resulting in the highest level of reliability and longevity.
