Double Tap Defense Factory Tour

Ever toured a gun factory? A few companies invite the public on guided tours, but walking the factory floor is something normally not done by people outside of the company’s employ. Recently, I was offered the chance to tour the manufacturing facility where Double Tap Defense pistols are made. Needless to say, I jumped at the opportunity.

I was given unexpected latitude in exploring the facility and photographing the production process. The photos and information in this article are from that factory tour.

All Caracal C Pistols Recalled: No Fix Available

Caracal Recall

Caracal announced today a recall of every C model pistol the company has ever made.  The recall is not limited to any specific serial numbers or market.

The safety issue(s) with the Caracal C cannot be fixed according to information released by the company.  No guns will be repaired and/or returned to the purchaser.  Caracal is offering a full refund of the original purchase price or vouchers for other Caracal products.

Caracal’s New Product Line

Caracal

Caracal appears to have shaken up the entire product line.  Some guns are out, while other new guns are now being shown.  Here is a quick break down of all of the changes, along with links to detailed information on each of the new guns.

In the handgun category, the old “F” and “C” pistols appear to have changed names, and the addition of a sub-compact pistol to the line has appeared.  They are the CP660 (full size), CP661 (compact) and CP662 (subcompact) pistols.  All three of these guns are chambered in the 9mm.

Caracal Revamps Entire Pistol Line

Caracal has completely revamped their pistol product line, eliminating the original F, C and SC models and replacing them with the CP660, CP661 and CP662 handguns. Additionally, the company introduced two completely new pistols: the CP663 and CP664.

According to Caracal, the new pistols offer “enhanced performance, interchangeable features and improved safety units.” What this specifically means, remains to be seen. But, I am guessing it relates to the complete recall of all Caracal C pistols. Here is what we know so far…

Smith & Wesson: Guns & Profit

Getting rid of Walther, grabbing market share and selling to the professional market all contributed to increased sales and gross profit for Smith & Wesson in the quarter ending August 31, 2013 according to company officials.

For consumers, the best news might have been the company’s focus to eliminate the order backlog and the goal to move from operating at capacity to operating at demand.
