shooting a 1911

We are just days away from the NRA show in Nashville, TN. I know I am looking forward to it, and I bet you are as well.

Already, we’ve seen announcements from Glock, Smith & Wesson, Ruger, Remington and Kahr about new guns. I expect there are even more coming. In fact I know of at least one new gun from the aforementioned companies that has not yet been announced…but, I can’t talk about it yet. Follow along on my NRA show page to keep up with the news.

Of course, I’ve been working on some gun reviews in the weeks leading up to the show…

Thursday’s Gun News

Desert Tech MDR-C

The new Micro Dynamic Rifle (MDR) from Desert Tech remains on track for delivery in 2015.  The company showed the multi-caliber, ambidextrous rifle at the 2014 SHOT Show, and has continued to develop the rifle.

Right now, it looks like there will be two versions: the standard MDR and a compact version (MDR-C).  The MDR-C will be 20″ overall with a 10.5″ barrel.  The standard MDR adds 6″ to both measurements.  The rifle can be quickly converted from .223 Rem to .308 Win, 300 BLK, 6.8 SPC and 7.62×39 for an incredible amount of caliber flexibility.

The safety issue(s) with the Caracal C cannot be fixed according to information released by the company.  No guns will be repaired and/or returned to the purchaser.  Caracal is offering a full refund of the original purchase price or vouchers for other Caracal products.

Smith & Wesson: Guns & Profit

Getting rid of Walther, grabbing market share and selling to the professional market all contributed to increased sales and gross profit for Smith & Wesson in the quarter ending August 31, 2013 according to company officials.

For consumers, the best news might have been the company’s focus to eliminate the order backlog and the goal to move from operating at capacity to operating at demand.

So, what new guns does the company have in the pipeline, and what role will the state of Illinois play in the future of Smith & Wesson? Let’s take a look at the past quarter and gaze into the future with the insights gained from the company’s latest earnings call.
