By Richard on March 25, 2012 No Comments

Chief Petty Officer Adam Brown was killed in action while serving his country as a US Navy SEAL.  The NRA Life of Duty produced a number of videos about him and his family.  They assembled some of the footage into this video entitles “Led by Faith.”

Buffalo Bore .38 Special Short-Barrel Ammo

By Richard on March 24, 2012 2 Comments

Buffalo Bore Short Barrel 38Buffalo Bore is loading .38 Special ammo specifically for short-barreled guns.  The load uses a Barnes 110 grain TAC-XP bullet, which is an all copper bullet.  The ammo uses brass cases and a low-flash powder.

Until recently, snub nose revolver shooters made due with standard ammunition and the knowledge that the ammo would not be as effective as if it was shot out of a longer barrel handgun.  The amount of velocity loss varied with the load and the firearm, but generally, it has been understood that short-barreled guns are less potent than longer ones.

Arsenal Firearms to Introduce New Full-Auto Gun

By Richard on March 23, 2012 No Comments

Arsenal Firearms announced they are developing a new full-auto/semi-auto gun.  The new firearm is not expected to be part of the AF-1 Strike One or AF2011-A1 double barrel 1911 series of pistols.  Rather, this is likely to be a entirely new platform.

In a press release, Arsenal stated:

A third revolutionary semiautomatic/full automatic weapon has also been brought to pre-industrial level by the R&D team of Arsenal Firearms, but will be disclosed later in 2012.

SIG P238 Desert

By Richard on March 23, 2012 1 Comments

SIG P238 DesertThe SIG P238 Desert is a recent introduction to the subcompact pistol line from SIG SAUER.  The new handgun has a light tan finish on the frame and a dark tan finish on the stainless steel slide.  Night sights are standard.

The Desert is the only factory P238 (that I’m aware of) that ships with Hogue wraparound grips.  The grips add to the overall grip size and has finger groves on the front.

The P238 Desert can be had with the normal (left side) safety or with the ambidextrous safety that was introduced at the 2012 SHOT Show.  MSRP is $752 or $780 for the ambidextrous safety version.

Long Slide AF-2011 Pistol

By Richard on March 22, 2012 No Comments

Arsenal Firearms is designing a new “long slide” double barrel pistol in the AF2011 line.  The new handgun “…will not follow the commemorative “A1” lines of the Second Century edition,” states Arsenal.

The AF2011-A1 created quite a stir earlier this month when they unveiled the pistol.  However, the company is not sitting down, waiting to see how the pistol is welcomed.  Rather, they seem to be running wide open at the R&D department as they have also announced a .38 Super and a multi-caliber version of the AF-2011A1.

Barnes 300 AAC Blackout Bullets and Ammo

By Richard on March 22, 2012 1 Comments

300 AAC BLACKOUT BulletsAs I reported last December, Barnes is now making a bullet for the 300 AAC Blackout cartridge.  The new bullet is a 110 grain, all copper bullet with a polymer tip.

Barnes is now making ammunition for the 300 AAC Blackout using this bullet.  The new Barnes 300 AAC Blackout VOR-TX ammunition is rated at 2300 fps from the muzzle (1292 ft-lbs of energy).  At 300 yards, the velocity eases down to 1536 fps (577 ft-lbs).

Lee Loader Video

By Richard on March 21, 2012 No Comments

I found a great video on reloading using the Lee Loader I wrote about a couple of days ago.  It is a simple system and can easily be done in the field:

New Lee Dies for 2012

By Richard on March 21, 2012 4 Comments

Lee reloading diesLee Precision is making two new PaceSetter die sets for 2012: the 338 Lapua and 300 AAC Blackout.  Both sets are two-die sets, though the company is also making a new factory crimp die (sold separately) for the 300 AAC Blackout.  All dies are now shipping.

The 338 Lapua is a standard two-die set that includes a shellholder, load data and a powder dipper.  MSRP is $39.98.

The 300 AAC Blackout is a “Very Limited Production” set.  Lee does not explain exactly what this means on their site, but I suspect that if you want one, you should buy sooner rather than later. The dies are not even available on the Lee site (out of stock), so you are probably going to have to hunt down a set through a Lee dealer.

Packing Pretty

By Richard on March 20, 2012 No Comments

Packing Pretty is one of the gun blogs that I have recently started reading.  Labeled as “A Tactical Guide for Women on Concealed Carry & Personal Protection,” the site caters to women, but will appeal to anyone looking for a fresh perspective on using firearms for self defense.
