Hornady’s Ammo Plant – Home Edition!

Hornady is known for making great ammunition and some really nice reloading tools.  The Hornady Lock-N-Load presses and prep tools are widely regarded as being of excellent quality.  As we approach the new year, Hornady announced several new reloading products including the Lock-N-Load Ammo Plant.

Hornady already makes a progressive press called the Lock-N-Load AP press.  While Dillon Precision is considered “the” progressive press company, I have to admit that the Hornady AP press has been very tempting.  In the Ammo Plant package, Hornady gives you pretty much everything you need to fully automate the cartridge assembly process.  In fact, for the price, this package would be tough to beat.

Black Aces Tactical Shotgun Rails

I recently came across Black Aces Tactical, a Florida company making quad-rails for the Remington 870/1100 and Mossberg 500/590 shotguns.

The rail system is a single piece made from 6061-T6 aluminum alloy weighing about 16 ounces.  The rails are black anodized (type II). The rails will accept any standard AR-type accessories: lights, lasers, coffee makers, whatever.

Black Aces Tactical states felt recoil will be reduced by about 15%.  There is not a specific explanation on the website on why this is, but I imagine the additional weight on the top and end of the gun help reduce the recoil impulse and muzzle rise.  An extra pound may not seem like much, but think about how much extra recoil you feel when you drop a pound from a rifle or scattergun.  So the recoild reduction of weight is not to be underestimated.

Gould & Goodrich Taurus Judge Holster

Gould & Goodrich announced a new model 874 Taurus Judge holster for 2012.  The leather holster is called a sporting holster, suggesting it is designed for hunting or other outdoors activities.  The leather is dyed chestnut brown, which I happen to prefer for these kinds of holsters.

The holster can be worn as a straight up draw on the strong side and as a canted forward cross draw holster.  I imagine the ability to wear the holster in either of these positions will appeal to a lot of people.

Gould & Goodrich is making the new model 874 holster in two sizes.  Size 1 is for the 2.5″ chambered Taurus Judge with a 2.5″ or 3″ barrel.  Size 2 is made for the 3″ chambered Taurus Judge with a 3″ barrel.  Both holsters fit belts up to 1 3/4″ wide.

Field & Stream hydroProof ULTRA Review and Field Test

Field Stream hydroproof reviewFall is upon us and the deer are rapidly approaching the peak of the rutting season. The Rocky mountains and the northeastern states have already experienced their first heavy snows of the year, and other areas are experiencing the cold rain that comes as the weather patterns change from the heat of summer to the cold of winter.

If you’re planning on entering the woods to hunt, or are simply going to be out in the elements, you need to make sure that you have the proper gear to keep you warm and dry.  To help keep you comfortable, I wrote this review of the Field & Stream Field & Stream hydroProof Ultra outerwear.

I am truly blessed to live in a part of the country that boasts some of the biggest trophy bucks on the record books, but I also live in an area where the weather can go from 70 degrees one day to below freezing the next! Usually that brings some form of precipitation along with it. Having the right outerwear is crucial to a successful hunt, and is just as important as my selection of rifle and ammunition.
