Taurus Raging Judge Magnum

taurus_raging_mag_01aTaurus has moved the Judge line solidly into the “big boom” category with the introduction of the Raging Judge Magnum chambered in .454 Casull.

This six-shot, big bore revolver can fire .454 Casull, .45 Colt and 2.5” and 3” .410 shotshells. Due to the power generated by the Casull cartridge, the cylinder has a double lock.

The Raging Judge Magnum is available with either a three-inch or six-inch barrel. The six-inch barrel has a vented rib and can accommodate a scope mount.

Chiappa Rhino Revolvers

chiappa rhinoChiappa Firearms was showing off their new series of Rhino revolvers at the 2010 SHOT Show.  When you see the Rhino for the first time, you know that it is definitely a different revolver than what you have known previously.

The Rhino’s barrel is at the bottom, no the top, of the frame.  The cartridge in the bottom of the cylinder is the one that fires.  This design is supposed to reduce muzzle flip and enhance shooter comfort.

Four models of Chiappa were shown: a 2” DAO, 4”, 5” and 6”.  All models except the 2” have a Picatinny rail under the barrel for a white light or laser attachment.  All models except the 2” also have pinned front sights and adjustable rear sights.  The 2” Rhino has fixed sights.  All are chambered in .357 Magnum.

I have a few concerns about the Rhino.

First, the exposed “hammer” isn’t really a hammer.  It is used to manually cock the internal hammer into single action mode.  After you pull the “hammer” back,  it then falls back into the “down” position.  There is no way to know the gun is cocked and in single action mode.

Silver State Armory 6.8 SPC Ammunition

Silver State Armory announced the production of three new 6.8 SPC loads: a plinking round, a tactical/law enforcement round and a specialized armor-piercing (AP) round.  This collection of new 6.8 SPC rounds offers a broad range of options for different applications in a tactical situation.

Silver State Armory 6.8 SPC ammo
This is the 97 grain armor piercing, tungsten carbide bullet.

The tactical round uses an 85 grain Barnes TSX bullet traveling at 3070 fps from a 16” barrel.  When fired into 10% ballistic gelatin, the bullet has an impressive wound cavity in the first eight inches, and penetrates a total of 17.38”.  The recovered diameter of the bullet averaged 0.546”.  This performance is what a lot of people are looking for.  Silver State Armory was unable to provide me with additional performance details, such as how it worked through auto glass, etc.  Those tests are very relevant for what this cartridge was designed to do.

CZ P-07 Tactical Prototype Pistol

cz_p07_tan_01

At the 2010 SHOT Show, CZ showed a concept pistol that the company may begin selling later this year.  The pistol is a tactical version of the P-07 Duty pistol that is, as yet, not named.  (Ed. note:  Scroll down to the update for more information on this pistol.)

The pistol is chambered in 9mm, and will feature a threaded barrel for the addition of a sound suppressor.  Suppressed models will have elevated sights.  The new P-07 has a tan polymer frame, but other colors (OD, foliage green, flat dark earth, scorched earth, etc.) may be offered.

Magpul Folding Pocket Gun

magpul_fcp_01aThe Magpul Folding Pocket Gun is here.  Well, an Airsoft version is anyway.

Magpul made a big splash a few years ago when they introduced the Folding Pocket Gun (aka FMG9) concept machine pistol.  The idea was they took a Glock and built it into a folding machine pistol, complete with a removable carry handle and white light.  The whole thing would fold up and fit into your pack pocket.  I thought building a retractable leash into the unit was the way to go, but that was probably destined for a version 2 model.

The video of the product demo made the rounds on the Internet and everybody wanted one.  Unfortunately, the real thing is still just a prototype.  What – you haven’t seen the famous FMG9 video from MilSpec Monkey?  Well, I am glad I decided to post it here for your review:

Now Magpul is selling the same gun as an Airsoft gun.  The Magpul PTS Folding Pocket Gun is actually a conversion kit made of polymer that fits airsoft KSC/KWA G18C slide assemblies, and can use G17/G18C magazines.  It is available in black.
