Rock River Arms X-1 Rifle

RRA X-1

Rock River Arms (RRA) introduced their new X-1 Series rifles at SHOT Show. Rock River Arms has continued to expand on a successful line of AR platform rifles, after winning a Federal contract to supply rifles to the DEA and several other Federal law enforcement agencies. Since that time Rock River has become a popular choice with hundreds of other law enforcement agencies, as well as civilian shooters.

Part of that success can be attributed to standard features on their rifles, such as the Rock River Arms 2-stage trigger, and other advanced features. The X-1 Series rifles will follow on that trend and add a few features as well.

The X-1 Series of rifles are designed for the long-distance shooter. All models are equipped with an 18” fluted barrel made of bead blasted stainless steel. The fluting runs parallel to the barrel length, reducing overall weight and increasing the ability of the rifle to dissipate heat. The barrels increase in thickness for larger calibers. Barrels are also Cryo treated, and will have the choice of a RRA Beast or Hunter muzzle brake with 1/2-28 thread. The brakes are the same except for the jagged teeth on the end of the Beast for window breaking or just looks.

By keeping barrel temperature more consistent the X-1 Series should allow follow-up shots to maintain flight paths closer to the cold bore shot. In addition, many shooting experts believe that a properly fluted barrel actually improves the harmonics of the barrel when fired, helping to provide the most accurate and consistent shots possible.

The X-1 Series rifles come standard with the RRA TRO-XL Extended Length Free Float Rail with a low profile gas block. The TRO-XL is well vented with oval shaped ports running the length of the rail. A quick detach port is installed on both sides at the far end of the rail for sling attachment, or short Picatinny rail attachment. There is a full length Picatinny rail on top. RRA offers a 2-inch, 8.5-inch, and 9-inch accessory rails as extras, but it appears that other brands would work too.

Interestingly the X-1 Series rifles will have mid-length gas system as opposed to a rifle length system. Each X-1 Series rifle will have a Hogue grip and the choice of a RRA Operator A2 fixed stock or a RRA Operator CAR collapsible stock. X-1 rifles will be available in black or tan models in a variety of calibers.
